Position Summary:
The Surgical Technician demonstrates basic knowledge and skills in the scrub role, necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures.
Responsibilities:
The Surgical Technician is responsible for aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment, instrumentation and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures; pulling cases as needed, breaking down cases at the end of the procedure, sets up operating room and supplies needed for day/following day's schedule. Available for call on an assigned scheduled basis as required by unit need. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education:
Required: Graduate of surgical technician program as required by state regulation of practice or policy.
Experience:
Preferred: 1 year experience as a surgical technician.
Certifications:
Required: BLS.
Preferred: Surgical Technology Certification.

The PatientCare Tech III (PCT III) brings an additional skill set to the table. PCTs that are performing unit secretary duties, telemetry monitoring, remote video monitoring, or are working in the Step-Down Unit, ED, Dialysis, Hospital at Home, or ICU are eligible for this level.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients' height and weight.
8. Performs EKG's, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients' needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
11. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
12. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
13. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
14. Answers telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette. Takes and relays messages. Utilizes intra-department communication systems, such as pagers and intercom.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
The PCT III must fit into one of these specialties:
Unit Secretary
Functions as unit secretary assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months. Has administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, maintaining logs, organizing patientcare charts for admission/discharge/transfer and maintenance of medical records. Enters data or retrieves medical information from the electronic medical record systems.

Continuously observes multiple patients utilizing the remote video monitoring system.

What will your day look like? You will:

Overnight is responsible for hourly rounds unless otherwise specified for high-risk clients, all rounds documented in MHT chat
Transporting clients to and from appointments, clinical services, employment if applicable, and other outside activities. Ensuring Epiphany's driving policy is being followed and if an accident occurs, accident policy is followed
Performing Urinalysis as assigned, reading urinalysis results on a 12-panel, and reporting and recording appropriate documentation as well as communicating to appropriate supervisor.
Performing breathalyzers on clients as assigned. Reporting any results over 0.00 to on call supervisor
Reporting and completing shift notes for each shift
Following chain of command at all times. Being aware of when and how to report any, and all issues on shift, including but not limited to facilities, clients and other staff
Building positive relationships with clients and staff
Utilizing group chat when on shift for communication with other staff and supervisor
Flexibility - scheduling (coverage can be needed at any time). Client schedule changes, last-minute intakes, behavioral issues etc.
Searching client belongings upon intake, vehicles, and rooms as assigned by Supervisor
Reporting Suicidal Ideation and Homicidal Ideations of any and all patients
Completing client intakes, following all steps as outlined intake protocol
Crisis intervention included but not limited to client altercation (verbal or physical), relapse, behavioral issues
AMA blocking as needed
Facilitating “Empower Hour” multiple times a week with appropriate documentation
Client individuals weekly for all clients on the mental health track with documentation
Complete CSSRS as assigned for clients who report suicidal ideation
Facilitating client rules and responsibilities, and reporting non-compliance to supervisor
What you will need for this position:
Minimum of one (2) year in the mental health field (preferred).
Working knowledge of 12-Step Program, AA or NA (preferred).
High School Diploma or GED.
Mental Health Technician Certification (preferred).
CPR Certified (preferred).
