Diabetes Education Dietitian Position Summary
Plans and provides outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy for children, adolescents, and adults with diabetes and/or other health conditions. Provides Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support to inpatients and outpatients in both group and individual settings. Works with the Nutrition and Diabetes Education Coordinator and diabetes care and education specialists including nurses and dietitians on the team to maintain ADA recognition status. Plans and conducts education for staff and public via in-services, presentations, health fairs and diabetes support groups. This position provides opportunity to fulfill requirements to become a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.

Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time, 40 hours/week Dietitian/Nutritionist to join our Center for Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery team. Summary
Manages the comprehensive medical nutritional care of patients which includes providing nutrition assessment, development of nutrition care plans, diet modification, nutrition education, and all activities involved in the nutritional needs of the patient population.
Essential Functions
Based on multiple criterion including assessment of nutritional needs, physician's orders, clinical data, interdisciplinary health care plans, and standards of quality nutritional care that appropriately meet age, psychosocial and physical needs of patients, the Dietitian develops and implements nutrition plan of care for patients.
Documentation of all nutrition related information including assessment, nutrition therapy recommendations and care plan, follow up data and changes, diet consultation results, discharge planning, daily clinical activities, and other related orders and pertinent information.
Counsel, educate, and develop resources and materials for the education of patients on families on prescribed therapeutic diets.
Partner with food service staff to ensure meals, supplements, and nutrition support is provided; review patients' menu selections to monitor compliance with modified diets.

At UPMC Western Maryland, our inpatient team manages all aspects of nutrition care across diverse patient populations, such as GI, renal, pulmonary, oncology, cardiac, surgical, and critical illness. We also have a growing outpatient clinic that provides Medical Nutrition Therapy, Diabetes Self-Management Training, Home Care, and other community programs.
This position is daylight with some flexibility regarding exact hours. The selected candidate will work occasional weekends and holidays.
Our recruitment team will also work with you to determine the best title (UPMC Dietitian or UPMC Dietitian II) and pay based on your experience. The requirements for Dietitian and Dietitian II are listed below with corresponding pay.

Dietitian Responsibilities (minimum hourly pay rate - $24.55):
+ Provides quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
+ Demonstrates effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
+ Provides appropriate nutrition education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
+ Writes orders appropriately as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
+ Formulates a Nutrition Diagnosis and identifies malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment Exam and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
+ Provides timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
+ Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units &/or committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
+ As required, professional communication skills (verbal and written) adaptable to all health literacy levels in regard to preparing education materials, presentations and other communications.
+ As required, follows outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges within regulatory requirements.
+ Participates in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities with an ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Dietitian Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) within 9 months of hire
+ Registered Dietitian (RD) within 6 months of hire
**Dietitian II Educational and Knowledge Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with 2 years clinical nutrition experience and be a registered dietitian _OR_
+ Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience and a registered dietitian required.
