Pros of working at Phia Salon

Unfortunately, I can’t find any positive aspects to working at Phia Salon. The owner is narcissistic, coworkers create a toxic environment, and there’s no compensation for mandatory meetings—whether in person or on Zoom. The constant flow of emails, even on off days, makes it impossible to disconnect. You’re stuck waiting for everyone to finish their work, even if you have an emergency. The surveillance with cameras and microphones everywhere is invasive, and the scare tactics and cult-like atmosphere make it a truly miserable place to work.

Cons of working at Phia Salon

I had a terrible experience working at Phia Salon. The owner is incredibly narcissistic, and the entire environment feels toxic. Coworkers are difficult to deal with, and the pay practices are highly unfair. I was expected to attend meetings, both in person and on Zoom, without any compensation—along with constant emails, day and night, even on off days. The worst part is that even though you’re working on commission, you can’t leave until everyone finishes their work, even if there’s an emergency. The salon is filled with cameras and microphones, so you’re constantly watched—it feels more like a cult than a workplace. The scare tactics used to keep employees in line were unbearable. I would not recommend working here.

What do you like best about Phia Salon's CEO and the leadership team?

None

How would you improve Phia Salon's culture?

If I were running Phia Salon, the first thing I’d do is pay employees for all the hours they work, including the endless meetings, both in person and on Zoom. No one should be expected to work for free. Second, I’d stop bombarding people with emails during their days off. Employees deserve real time off without having to constantly check their phones. I’d also allow people to leave for emergencies without needing to wait for the entire team to finish their day. It’s ridiculous to hold everyone hostage until the last client is done. Trust your employees, don’t treat them like kids. Next, the cameras and microphones everywhere have to go. It’s creepy and invasive. No one should feel like they’re being watched all day long, and it doesn’t create a good environment. The leadership needs to stop with the scare tactics and actually support their team. Listen to the staff, give them a voice, and show some appreciation for the hard work they put in. At the end of the day, treating people with respect and paying them fairly would change the toxic culture for the better.

How did you prepare for the Phia Salon interview?

I didn’t bother preparing much since it seemed like they’d hire anyone with a pulse. I just showed up, answered a few basic questions, and that was it—nothing serious.

What brings you the most joy at Phia Salon?

None

What's the diversity at Phia Salon like?

I feel like the representation of diverse demographics within the organization is lacking. There’s little to no effort to ensure inclusivity, and it feels like the same type of people are constantly being hired, which doesn’t create a welcoming or balanced environment.

How does your compensation at Phia Salon compare to the industry average?

The compensation at Phia Salon is way below the industry average. Between unpaid meetings, unpaid hours, and waiting around for everyone to finish before you can leave, it feels like they’re taking advantage of the staff. It’s frustrating knowing I could earn more elsewhere for the same or even less work.
