ROLE: Mobile Phlebotomist works with the Phlebotomy Supervisor to ensure efficient and accurate workflow of the Mobile Phlebotomy staff. Demonstrates the skills and competence to accurately review completed laboratory requisitions or electronic orders in Epic: * Completes all necessary information including the legible documentation of assigned phlebotomy code, collection date, and other required information. Properly retrieves electronic orders from Sunquest, Collection manager and Epic as necessary. * Follows procedures for obtaining "standing order" information according to department policy. * Includes all requirements in formation for the Blood Bank samples (initials, date, patient name and medical record number on all tubes and requisitions). * Follows department policies related to the collection of "discharge/transfer", STAT and timed collections. 3. Demonstrates the skill and competence necessary to perform the venipuncture and heelstick procedures: * Selects the best vein or site available for blood drawing. * Demonstrates skill with various types of needles and other collection equipment. * Follows correct "order of draw" for vacutainer tubes. * Follows procedures for the appropriate collection of blood cultures to avoid contamination of specimen. * Removes the tourniquet according to department policies and procedures. * Labels all samples in accordance with department policies and procedures. * Check the collection site prior to leaving the patient. 4. Follows all Infection Control guidelines throughout the venipuncture procedure. * Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required. * Follows all patient precautions and procedures for isolation. * Discards all equipment (sharps, glove, etc.) as required. * Follow hospital Hand Hygiene policies and procedures between all procedures and patients. 5. Demonstrates knowledge of collection criteria: correct vacutainer tubes, volume, stability requirements and/or special handling. 6. Effectively teaches and trains all new employees, students, and other additional requests for teaching and training. Provides constructive feedback. 7. An integral part of our hospital operations, the role of the Phlebotomist is a key player in the facilitation of collecting and passing along a vital piece of information to our Laboratory and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve our mission of providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. The Phlebotomist collects blood samples from patients of all ages. Identifies patients and procures samples. We are seeking candidates with prior Phlebotomy experience, or those looking to start a new career as a Phlebotomist, for whom we will provide on-the-job training for the position/shift you are offered. We currently have the following open position(s): Manchester Clinic: Part-time (day shift), 20 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 12:30 pm Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Full-time (evening shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm; we offer a 10% shift differential for the evening shift. Nashua Clinic: Part-time (day shift), 20 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Concord Clinic: Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm All Southern Region Locations - position to rotate between locations as needed: Full-time, 40 hours/week, working Monday-Friday, day shift with evenings as needed All per diem, part-time, and full-time positions require weekends on rotation. Part-time and full-time positions require rotating holidays. All positions may rotate to other clinic locations as needed. Responsibilities Obtains blood specimens from outpatients. Maintains knowledge of specific specimen requirements and follows the correct order of draw based on tube type and special handing of tests. Utilizes proper resources for obtaining specimen requirement information. Collects and enters off-site blood work into system. Completes and processes a variety of forms. Obtains pre-authorizations and patient signatures. Prepares specimens for in-lab testing or off-site shipment. Processes specimens that require special handling according to established procedures or protocols. Ensures blood drawing stations are clean and well stocked. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications High school graduate or the equivalent required. 1 year of medical/technical experience desired. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Proven work experience with the public. Strong computer ability desired. Required Licensure/Certifications BLS within 30 days Certification as Phlebotomy Technician - PBT preferred within 6 months of hire. Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, identification, and labeling of venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers at the patient service center(s), main hospital facility, and various client sites, according to established methods and procedures. Responsible for handling of all laboratory specimens, performs capillary glucose testing, and completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection. Reports to the Supervisor Non-Technical and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members. Hours 6:30am-10:30am Mon-Fri and an every 4th Saturday morning rotation 7am-12noon. Education High school or equivalent (GED). Certification, Registration, and Licensure None required. Experience Training in phlebotomy procedures preferred. Responsibilities Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request. Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department. Assists in training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, as directed, in regards to obtaining, handling and transport of specimens, and other areas related to phlebotomy. Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements. Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts within the department.
