Phoenix Comicon company history timeline

2002

The original event, launched in 2002 by Matt Solberg, was called Phoenix Cactus Comicon and was later shortened to Phoenix Comicon.

2006

Astell: It took off really in 2006 when it went to Mesa.

2010

In 2010, the con (now known as just Phoenix Comicon) hit some major milestones.

Astell: There were over 13,000 people there in 2010, and it was the big dog of local cons by then and just kept growing.

2011

In 2011, it was moved to the [Phoenix Convention Center's] North and West buildings and the vendors took up half the space in the downstairs exhibitor hall.

2014

Warners: One of my favorite years was 2014, when they had panels by Adam West, Nathan Fillion, Stephen Amell, and Bruce Campbell one after the other in the same ballroom.

2017

Gallery: Phoenix Comicon 2017

In 2017, tragedy was averted after Phoenix Police arrested local resident Matthew Sterling brought a cache of weapons — including three handguns, a shotgun, and a combat knife — into the convention center during the first day of the convention.

2019

Solberg (in 2019): That was my light bulb moment.

2022

Phoenix Fan Fusion 2022 runs from Friday, May 27, to Sunday, May 29, at the Phoenix Convention Center, 100 North Third Street.
