Performs sterilization, assembly and storage of medical supplies and equipment. Leads the day-to-day operational work flow. Responsibilities include staffing, monitoring staff performance, providing staff education, inventory control, management of sterile processing information database, and implementing and directing Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement initiatives for the department. We're seeking a **Sterile Processing Technician for Emory University Hospital** responsible for being a capable certified technician who cares about the quality of their work an ensuring the safety for all patients.
This individual will:
+ Assembles special procedure trays for such complex surgeries such as open heart, transplant, major orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgical, laparoscopic, and spine surgeries.
+ Uses computer to scan PIC tickets on instrument trays and case cart protocol. Properly operates cleaning and sterilization equipment such as washers, sterilizers, sonic cleaners and cart washers.
+ Restocks prep areas with supplies and takes inventory of sterile instrument pans and trays. May retrieve contaminated equipment, supplies, trays, and instruments from patient care areas for cleaning and sterilization.
+ May collect needles and sharp containers from O.R. for proper disposal.
+ Monitors all sterilization equipment by testing and recording indicators. Assists in training staff in the identification of surgical instruments and individual pans.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Have two years of experience in sterile processing environment.
+ Registered as a Central Service Technician.

Must possess strong leadership skills and the ability to prioritize and delegate assignments. The ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

+ Provide on-site support for surgical instrument reprocessing in line with TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN standards and facility policies.
+ Handle decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage of reusable medical supplies.
+ Communicate effectively and professionally with hospital and company staff.
+ Participate in orientation and on-the-job training of new staff when directed.
+ Report broken instruments and low par levels of SPD consumables.
+ Promote lean work environment concepts and follow dress code requirements.
+ Support and adhere to both IMS and facility policies and procedures.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Completion of a Sterile Processing/Surgical Technologist program preferred.
+ Basic computer skills and aptitude required.
+ Active certification in sterile processing/central sterile via CBSPD or IAHCSMM - or two years of relevant experience in lieu of certification.
+ Extensive knowledge of instrumentation.

Supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations. At the direction of the Manager may participate in new IMS employee orientation and on the job training. Understands and promotes concepts of the Lean work environment. Communicates in a professional manner to all hospital staff and company employees. Refers all decisions beyond personal scope of responsibilities to IMS leadership. Reports broken instrumentation and equipment and communicates low par levels of SPD consumable supplies. Exhibits professional behavior in all personal, telephone and electronic communications. Represents IMS, self and profession positively in all public arenas. Supports and adheres to IMS policies and procedures and supports policies and procedures of facility. Adheres to IMS / facility dress requirements and is neat and well-groomed at all times. Arrives at facility at the scheduled time and is consistently ready for work assignments. Participates in in-services and educational offerings provided by IMS in the facility. Promotes best demonstrated practices with co-workers through open communication and continuous improvement of skills. Determines the best method of cleaning, wrapping, and sterilizing a variety of medical and surgical instruments, equipment, and needles. Assembles surgical instrument trays and pans and delivers sterilized items to the operating room. Assembles special procedure trays for such complex surgeries such as open heart, transplant, major orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgical, laparoscopic, and spine surgeries. Uses computer to scan PIC tickets on instrument trays and case cart protocol. Properly operates cleaning and sterilization equipment such as washers, sterilizers, sonic cleaners and cart washers. Restocks prep areas with supplies and takes inventory of sterile instrument pans and trays. May retrieve contaminated equipment, supplies, trays, and instruments from patient care areas for cleaning and sterilization. May collect needles and sharp containers from O.R. for proper disposal. Monitors all sterilization equipment by testing and recording indicators. Assists in training staff in the identification of surgical instruments and individual pans. Prioritizes assignments and adjusts work flow to meet the most important needs. Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in sterile processing environment. Registered as a Central Service Technician. Some experience with computer software. The ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

We're seeking Sterile Processing Technicians to join our talent pool of professionals who are committed to excellence and patient safety. As a key member of our team, you will ensure the safe and effective reprocessing of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with Emory Healthcare standards and national regulatory guidelines. This individual will:
* Provide on-site support for surgical instrument reprocessing in line with TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN standards and facility policies.
* Handle decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage of reusable medical supplies.
* Communicate effectively and professionally with hospital and company staff.
* Participate in orientation and on-the-job training of new staff when directed.
* Report broken instruments and low par levels of SPD consumables.
* Promote lean work environment concepts and follow dress code requirements.
* Support and adhere to both IMS and facility policies and procedures.

Performs a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays/sets, equipment, and supplies with direct supervision. * Assists with maintaining department sterilization records.
* Participates in sterilizer test parameters monitoring, e.g., bowie dick test, biologicals, and other forms of sterilization testing and responds appropriately to sterilization that does not pass.
* Supports operating room functions in sterile core.

Job Description
Performs a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays/sets, equipment, and supplies with direct supervision. Performs routine cleaning such as wiping down tables. Participates in distribution of operating room supplies and trays/sets. Performs all tasks as assigned in a neat and organized manner. Maintains and prevents cross contamination by observing dress codes, environmental policies, and traffic control.

Job Responsibilities
