The position is held by Shravan Hardikar since April 2017. It was established on 11 October 1982 to govern the newly industrialized towns of Chinchwad, Akurdi, Pimpri & Bhosari.
On 11 October 1982, the civic body was reorganized to form the modern municipal corporation with the merger of seven surrounding villages of Sangvi, Rahatani, Thergaon, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Saudagar as well as parts of Wakad.
It was converted into Municipal Corporation by the same authority vide gazette dated 06/10/1982.
The newly formed PCMC had an area of 86 km2 under its jurisdiction, which increased drastically in September 1997 after 18 fringe villages were merged into the city.
2. e) Expanded to 750 beds in 1999, upto 5th floor
Excavated by Archaeologists, the 2000 year old 'Artist temple' and the "Artist Mahal" situated at Bhosari or the erstwhile Bhojapur is one of the monuments of interest in the township.
2. g) ICU Expanded in 2001 to 12 beds. (Presently under repair)
2. h) Dialysis Unit started on 12/08/2002 with 6 beds, later 2 beds added.
2. m.1) Modernized FDA approved Blood Bank was started on 20/06/2015, on Basement with Blood component Preparation facilities.
Gender harassment committee has been functioning & is reformed recently in Oct 2016.
The newly elected general body elected Nitin Kalje (BJP) as the mayor and Shailaja More (BJP) in March 2017.
Rahul Jadhav (BJP) was elected as the mayor and Sachin Chinchwade (BJP) as the deputy mayor in August 2018.
