    Type: Exempt, Full time Supervisor: Director of Youth and Alumni Services Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 As a Case Manager you'll work with opportunity youth (ages 16-24) from the Boston Metro North region providing wrap-around supportive services and referrals ensuring that participants attain their High School Equivalency credential and secure high quality, good paying jobs. The Case Manager is a key team member on the YouthBuild Just A Start team. Their scope of work includes but is not limited to: 1) providing trauma-informed case management services to trainees and alumni, 2) collaborating with the Director of Youth and Alumni Services (DYAS) to design Life Skills curriculum for trainees, and 3) supporting with leadership development training. The Case Manager works closely with the Director of Youth and Alumni Services to provide strength-based coaching to ensure trainees remain in good standing and successfully complete the program. This is an exciting career opportunity for an experienced equity-centered case manager with an interest in supporting young people achieve their personal and professional goals. The Case Manager will join a growing team of supportive service youth workers committed to YouthBuild trainees and our growing portfolio of young adult training programs. PROGRAM BACKGROUND: Just A Start is a community development corporation dedicated to promoting equity by creating access to stable housing and building pathways to economic opportunity. We build and preserve affordable housing, offer education and workforce training, and provide housing resources and services to low-to moderate-income people in Cambridge and nearby communities. Founded in 1968 as a teen summer jobs program, Just A Start has a long history of serving young people in Cambridge. YouthBuild Just A Start is a full-time, comprehensive youth workforce development program for ages 16-24 in the Boston Metro North region. Our program is one of 11 independently operated YouthBuild programs and members of the Massachusetts YouthBuild Coalition. As a proud affiliated member of the global YouthBuild movement, we help young people reclaim their education, gain job skills, and become community leaders. We define students by their potential, not their challenges, offering mentorship, counseling, and support. Utilizing positive youth development and trauma-informed practices, we provide wrap-around services and academic and career training to out of school youth. CASE MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES * Manage an average student case load of 15 active students as well as alumni by providing 1:1 case management services across Youth Programs (YouthBuild and Solar Start). * Develop and administer the basic needs survey, develop Supportive Action Plans (SAPs), and Student Success Plans. * Coordinate progress reviews ensuring that trainees receive timely feedback on their progress across all program components. * Promote respect and responsibility by upholding YouthBuild policies through strength-based coaching. * Provide supportive service benefits to trainees such as the program stipend, MBTA passes, driving lessons, and other student milestone incentives. * Maintain relationships and communicate with trainees, family members, guardians, as well as other service providers ensuring continuity of supportive services. * Advocate for trainees who are court-involved through coordination and communication with lawyers, court-room advocates and accompanying youth to court appearances as necessary. * Develop supportive service strategies in collaboration with other Just A Start departments as well as with Career Pathways, Education and Construction teams ensuring that trainees meet their educational and career goals. * Support the effective placement and transition of eligible trainees in and out of Just A Start's participant-designated transitional housing apartment units and coordinate as needed with JAS' Resident Services and property management. * Complete case notes and other required case management documentation in a timely, accurate, and strengths-based manner. * Stay informed about community resources and eligibility requirements (e.g. unemployment, SNAP, housing, mental health services, food resources, etc). LIFE SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT * Support the development and facilitation of 1-2 Life Skills classes per week focused on socio-emotional wellbeing. * Collaborate with the Director of Youth and Alumni Services to develop and co-facilitate the Youth Policy Council (YPC) and Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) design thinking social impact projects and the podcast. * Co-design and plan program-wide activities (e.g. Pre-orientation, Graduation) and other celebrations that foster a sense of community. * Work with the VISTA team to ensure that community resources and partnerships are cultivated that align with student needs and lead to successful outcomes. QUALIFICATIONS / KEYS TO SUCCESS: * Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education. * Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in case management/advocacy is strongly preferred. * Love, equity-centered, sense of humor, and passion for working with young people and ability to build positive relationships with young people. * Experience working with young people (ages 16-24) dealing with significant barriers or obstacles to success. * Demonstrated experience with group facilitation. * Exposure to, or awareness of, principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI), Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a plus. * Strong verbal and written communicator who is capable of managing up, down and across the department and organization to deliver quality and integrated services. * Growth-mindset, patience, and understanding of the evergreen nature of youth needs and goals. * Familiarity with Google Workspace, Box, Zoom, and Salesforce (or other CRM) preferred. * Willingness to work flexible in-person/remote work hours outside of Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM as needed in service to young people. * Acceptable CORI/SORI is required. Example of Duties Coordinates, maintains, evaluates, and provides recommendations directly related to the implementation of resource management plans at assigned park(s). May assist with the Bison Reintroduction Project including daily care, health evaluations, structure and facility inspections, and other related services if assigned to Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. Implements resource management plans to achieve the goals of prairie, wetland, reforestation restoration, and steam restoration projects. Operates and maintains equipment (e.g., tractor and brush hog, chainsaw, wood chipper) utilized in the implementation of prairie restoration, controlled succession and other land management projects. Performs controlled succession mowing and clearing. Assists with prescribed burns throughout Metro Parks. Coordinates plot preparation, seed picking, planting and management of restored prairies, wetlands, reforestation areas, and other habitat restoration areas. Evaluates, identifies, and manages non-native invasive species throughout park areas. Assists with the Deer Management Program. Prepares periodic reports of work accomplished. May oversee small contracts for succession mowing, farm agreements, and non-native invasive species removal at assigned park(s). May train Interns and others involved in land management projects such as controlled succession and prairie restoration, in the proper methods and techniques, and safe use of equipment, etc. Promotes Park District through contact with other conservation agencies, general public and programs. May coordinate aspects of the Hazardous Tree Program. Performs special projects and related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications Education/Experience: Associate degree in biology, natural resources, environmental science or related field and two (2) years land management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This includes addressing issues related to substance use, mental health, domestic violence, and other relevant concerns, and initiating appropriate treatment referrals or submitting bond violation notices to the court and/or the prosecutor's office for possible revocation proceedings. * Prepare written reports regarding violations and provide recommendations for appropriate disposition. * Notify the Prosecutor's Office and Court of non-compliance with bond supervision requirements; request bond revocations when necessary; and attend court hearings when required. * Schedule and conduct drug use detection tests of defendants, following established procedures and protocols. * Maintain records of test results using the department's Ohio Community Supervision System (OCSS) database. * Respond to judicial officer's request for information promptly. * Testify in court as to the basis for factual findings. * Serve as a resource to the court. * Maintain detailed written records in OCSS of all case activity and enter information in real time when possible but no longer than 24 hours after event or contact. * May conduct surveillance and/or search and seizure at the direction of the court. * Investigate and analyze financial documents and activities and take appropriate action. * Communicate with victim(s) when necessary and provide victim information to the prosecutor's officer and/or to the court, if relevant. * Manage cases based on defendants' level of risk as determined by the Pretrial Assessment Tool (PAT) and develop a blend of strategies for controlling and correcting risk management. * Communicate with other organizations and persons (law enforcement, treatment agencies, and attorneys) concerning defendants' behavior and conditions of bond supervision. * Develop an appropriate supervision plan to address the requirements of the Court and the assessed needs of the defendant based on the defendant's Pretrial Assessment Tool (PAT) Risk Score. * Support the defendant in maintaining compliance with bond conditions while on bond supervision. * Participate in activities that enhance the Department and Court, the individual units within the Department, and the Officer's own professional development. * Active participation in required training and professional development events around evidence-based practices in community corrections and behavioral health issues, per department standards and as deemed appropriate. * Perform other tasks as assigned. May also be assigned to other positions in other probation divisions as needed. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS * A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with core course work in areas related to criminal justice, criminology, corrections, psychology, social work, or liberal arts. * Willingness and ability to complete the Department's Field Safety Training Program, including but not limited to: * Defensive tactics, verbal de-escalation techniques, and first aid/CPR, to engage with defendants in the community. * Ability to assess and supervise bond defendants effectively (e.g., assess and resolve problems, motivate defendants toward prosocial support, and facilitate interventions that assist when necessary). * Effective oral and written communication and interviewing skills (e.g., ability to listen effectively, obtain sensitive information, explain complex issues in a comprehensible manner, prepare accurate and logical reports relevant to the defendant). * Ability to make informed and thoughtful recommendations and decisions. * Knowledge of the criminal justice system and current research trends in the field of pretrial bond supervision and community corrections, necessary to work within the Court and community corrections field effectively. * Ability to appropriately receive and follow supervisory feedback, coaching and direction. * Ability to demonstrate resilience and flexibility in a high-paced, dynamic work environment. * Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information. * Proficiency in operating a personal computer and using, or being able to learn, Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, and Excel, and Ohio Community Supervision Systems (OCSS) the Court's case management software. * Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment. * Pleasant personality and ability to deal with potentially difficult people and ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with judges, employees, attorneys, litigants, law enforcement officers, and others conducting business with the Court. * Conscious of, and sensitive to, diversity and inclusion issues within the Court's jurisdiction and ability to interact professionally with this diverse population of people from many different geographic, socioeconomic, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds on a regular basis. * Excellent time-management skills, ability to prioritize work and problem solve, ability to work independently, and ability to work under time constraints. * Ability to work effectively in a team environment. * Professional appearance and demeanor, particularly a positive attitude required for the position and the work environment as a representative of the Court. * Demonstrated dependability, punctuality, and excellent attendance record. * Patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, and sound judgment. * Ability to work collaboratively with Criminal Justice partners. * Skilled in the art of interviewing and assessment. * Willingness to become familiar with the Court's community resources. * Maintain a valid Ohio driver's license.
