Polo Group Inc. history

1894: Polo game played in Santa Barbara at the Agricultural Park as an Exhibition.

1911: Santa Barbara Polo Club was admitted to the United States Polo Association (USPA).

What springs to mind is something more akin to the open-weave piqué cotton, soft-collared, three-button placket-front shirt innovated by French tennis player René Lacoste in the late 1920s.

1923: Major Max Fleischmann, "the yeast king", purchased the current site from J.D. Nidever.

In 1933, La Chemise Lacoste was founded, adopting as its logo the crocodile — a nickname Lacoste had picked up thanks to winning a bet with another player (the prize being a lavish croc-hide suitcase) and due to his snappy tenacity in competition.

1936: Major Fleischmann divided the SBPC into ten parts for the sum of ten dollars.

1939: Robert Skene first visited the SBPC. He immediately fell in love with the club only to return later to support the SBPC with his ability of 10 goals.

1954: Harry East retired as the Polo Manager and the Harry East tournamened was names in his honor.

Launched in 1972, and marketed early on with the slogan “It gets better with age,” the Ralph Lauren ‘mesh’ shirt — available in a rainbow of colours, carrying the iconic pony logo on its chest — has been the brand’s most popular product for nearly five decades.

During the 1980's, the Club developed multiple leagues of polo to attract new players at various skill levels.
