Pool Professionals company history timeline
America did not have a single swimming pool until 1868 when the Cabot Street bath in Boston was built.
The first swimming pool was a public pool built in 1887 in Brookline, Massachusetts.
One of the first residential pools built was on the Vanderbilt estate in Asheville, North Carolina in 1895.
In 1910, Brown University began using chlorine to clean its swimming pool, which is now remembered as the first attempt of chlorine pool sanitation in the United States.
In the 1930’s, hotels began having pools built as marketing tools.
In 1940, the first gunite pool was built.
In the late 1950’s, Esther Williams brand pools began operation, which was the first vinyl-lined swimming pool manufacturer.
In the 1950’s, after the Korean War, the pool construction boom really took off, as more and more pool companies were using gunite over poured concrete or hand-stacked concrete.
But the biggest advancement for the decade of the 1960’s was the shapes of pools, which were becoming more freeform than the rectangle pool that preceded it.
As a testament to the outstanding legacy of quality service established by the Allen brothers so many years ago, Allen Pool Service continues to service some of the original annual contracts initiated in the 1970’s.
The values that were in place when Allen Pool Service was founded in 1970 are still in place today.
Family-owned and operated Swim Chem has been serving the Northern California area since 1970 when owner John Wallace saw a need for a dependable pool maintenance company.
Allen Pool company was founded in 1972 by two brothers, Joe and Jerry Allen.
Eventually, the United States adopted this pool treatment method and began using ozone in 1975.
One of the biggest changes of the 1980’s was the desire for pools to be more natural looking, rather than the traditional look of the swimming pool.
The 1980’s were also responsible for the vanishing edge pool, which creates a look that the pool is emptying out.
In the 1990’s, the swimming pool industry finally got what it has needed for a long time—input from consumers.
Our philosophy hasn’t changed since the company was founded in 1990.

SouthernSelect Pool Professionals was incorporated in 2006, and offers 35 years of combined experience.
Brenden Culver started with Pool Professionals in 2007 as a lifeguard.
Courtney began working in the aquatic industry in 2011; serving as lifeguard, trainer, and aquatic manager.
Joe Poole began his aquatics career with Pool Professionals in 2012 as a lifeguard and currently serves as the Director of Maintenance East.
He joined Pool Professionals in 2013 and now works closely with all aspects of company leadership while collaborating daily with property managers, realtors, and developers to ensure client satisfaction and safety of pool facilities.
Devin Luchs began working with Pool Professionals in 2014 as a seasonal Lifeguard and quickly was promoted to a Lifeguard Manager.
Leslie joined Pool Professionals in 2016.
Brad Harvey joined Pool Professionals in 2017 and is the qualifier for company’s building license.
Jenny Fuller joined Pool Professionals in 2020 as the Executive Liaison.
Zoe Myatt began her career with Pool Professionals in 2020 as a pool technician and is currently serving as Director of Maintenance West.
Courtney Freuler joined Pool Professionals in 2021 as the Director of Staff Operations.
