PREBLE company history timeline

1808

On February 15, 1808, the Ohio government authorized the creation of Preble County.

1810

In 1810 he took the first census of Preble County.

1812

The members of this company have been left out of the roster of Ohio's soldiers in the war of 1812, as least so far as Ohio's record is concerned.

The first post office was opened in Baltimore in 1812.

1813

Old Block House.—On what is known as the Wolf farm, Harrison township, stood one of a series of block houses built and manned by citizen-soldiers in the fall of 1813.

1819

In 1819 he represented Preble County in the Legislature.

1832

Preble Corners became more prosperous and in 1832 the post office was moved there.

1865 — Preble Hotel was built

1885 — Perry Haynes planted the first acre of cabbage in Preble.

Census, 1890, 2,996. "At Eaton are mineral springs and flowing wells," writes Doctor F. M. Michael. "Artesian Wells are obtained in the north part of the town by boring thirty or thirty-five feet in the earth.

1924

The first Preble Milk Producers Inc., was organized in 1924.

1928

1928 — Preble Fire District leased land to house fire equipment

1930 — Preble Fire Department was formed

1937

A World War Memorial was erected on Memorial Day, May 30, 1937, in memory of Mark J. McCauliffe and to the men of Preble who served in World War I. For many years, the people in town had sought some kind of memorial.

1940

In February, 1940 the Preble Milk Co-Operative was formed.

1954

1954 — Preble Fire Department Auxiliary was formed with 38 active members.

1957

PREBLE's keel was laid on 16 December 1957 at the Bath Iron Works

1959

PREBLE was launched on 23 May 1959.

1960

PREBLE was commissioned on May 9, 1960 as DLG-15 and was one of the first ships built from the keel up to fire Terrier guided missiles.

Evaluation of the new radar continued until 29 April 1963 under O/S 62 FY 62 CNO project.

1964

During January 1964, PREBLE conducted operations in the Pacific Missile Range area and commenced a restricted availability at Long Beach Naval Shipyard that extended to 14 February.

1965

PREBLE began 1966 moored to Pier 2 an the United States Naval Station, San Diego, California.

1967

The start of 1967 found USS PREBLE attached the United States Seventh Fleet and in port at Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines.

1968

As the year ended, PREBLE conducted her final leave and upkeep period and was ready for the forthcoming deployment in January 1968.

1969

As part of the Navy's Anti-Air Warfare Modernization Program, PREBLE was decommissioned 31 January 1969 for an extensive conversion in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.

A milk plant was built and milk was brought by cans by the producers until 1969.

1970

On 11 July 1970, PREBLE passed through the Panama Canal and returned to the Pacific.

During the spring of 1972, PREBLE participated in local exercises and continued training for her next WESTPAC deployment.

1973

At 0800, on 28 January 1973, the ship's 1MC announced that the Vietnam War was over.

On 20 March 1973, CDR M. E. TOOLE, USN, relieved CDR P. BLUNDELL, USN, as Commanding Officer.

On 24 September 1973, PREBLE departed Pearl Harbor for a six-month deployment.

1974

With three weeks of upkeep and R&R behind her, PREBLE departed Subic Bay on 14 January 1974.

1975

PREBLE completed her overhaul in March 1975.

1976

PREBLE continued building her reputation for excellence when she deployed again in 1976.

1978

In July of 1978 a Change-of-Command Ceremony was held aboard PREBLE where CDR E. E. KILLINGER, USN was relieved by CDR FRED W. BAILEY, USN as Commanding Officer of PREBLE.

1979

In April 1980, PREBLE departed the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard completing her 13-month baseline overhaul.

1982

On 4 August 1982, during a one day stop at Rodman Naval Base, Panama, a Change-of-Command Ceremony was held aboard PREBLE where CDR THOMAS E. STONE, USN was relieved by CDR ROBERT SUTTON, USN as Commanding Officer of PREBLE.

1983

1983 found PREBLE in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

1983 — Present Charlie Randall Barber Shop opened.

1984

In November 1984 a Change-of-Command Ceremony was held aboard PREBLE where CAPT ROBERT SUTTON, USN was relieved by CDR C. F. VOTAVA, III, USN as Commanding Officer of PREBLE.

In December 1986 a Change-of-Command Ceremony was held aboard PREBLE where CDR C. F. VOTAVA, III, USN was relieved by CDR PETER W. BULKELEY, USN as Commanding Officer of PREBLE

1989 began with PREBLE moored at Pier 21, Naval Station Norfolk.

1991

PREBLE returned to Norfolk, VA on 14 June 1991.

1999

In 1999, the per capita income was 22,272 dollars, with eight percent of the county's residents living below the poverty level.

2000

The county seat is Eaton, which is the largest city in the county with a population of 8,133 people in 2000.

2001

June 9, 2001 The Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Preble was christened during a ceremony at Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss.

2002

August 12, 2002 United States Navy officially took delivery of DDG 88 from the Northrop Grumman Ships Systems Ingalls Operations.

Preble’s reputation lives on as an important role model for officers of the United States Navy, exemplified in the 2002 commissioning of the sixth United States naval ship to bear his name, the USS Preble, a guided missile destroyer.

2003

February 18, 2003 The guided-missile destroyer is currently conducting Combat System Ship's Qualification Trials (CSSQT) in the SOCAL Op.

2005

August 19, 2005 USS Preble is currently underway conducting routine training off the coast of southern California.

2006

June 8, 2006 USS Preble pulled into Portland, Oregon, to participate in the annual 99th Rose Festival.

2007

January 20, 2007 USS Preble departed Naval Base San Diego for a scheduled deployment with the Stennis CSG.

April 25, DDG 88 is currently participating in exercise Arabian Gauntlet 2007, the world's largest mine countermeasure exercise bringing together the efforts of 14 countries and 16 ships, in the Arabian Gulf.

2008

March 25, 2008 The guided-missile destroyer is currently off the coast of southern California, as part of opposition forces for the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) CSG's COMPTUEX.

2009

January 17, 2009 USS Preble departed Naval Base San Diego for a scheduled deployment.

2010

July 7, 2010 The Preble departed Naval Base San Diego for a Friends and Family Day Cruise.

2011

January 14, 2011 The guided-missile destroyer returned to homeport after a short underway period for routine training and ammo onload.

2013

February 6, 2013 DDG 88 departed Naval Base San Diego for local operations; Underway for a Friends and Family Day Cruise on March 30.

July 16, USS Preble is currently participating in a biennial joint exercise Talisman Sabre 2013, off the coast of Queensland, Australia, as part of the USS George Washington (CVN 73) CSG.

2014

January 29, 2014 The Preble commenced a three-month Selected Restricted Availability (SRA) at the Continental Maritime of San Diego shipyard; Underway for sea trials on May ?.

2015

February 9, 2015 USS Preble departed homeport for an 11-day Independent Deployer Certification Exercise (IDCERTEX).

2016

January 14, 2016 USS Preble is currently moored at Bravo 25 Wharf in Pearl Harbor.

2017

February 10, 2017 The guided-missile destroyer is currently moored at Wharf B23 on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam; Underway for routine training from Feb.

2018

July 10, USS Preble departed homeport to participate in at-sea phase of a biennial multinational exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018; Moored outboard the USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) at Wharf B22 on Aug.

12, 2018; Transited northbound on Feb.

2020

January 16, 2020 The Preble moored at Pier M2 on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam after underway for a Friends and Family Day Cruise; Underway again from Jan.

2022

August 13, BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair was awarded a $103,6 million contract for the USS Preble's Depot Maintenance Period (DMP). Work will be performed in San Diego and is expected to be completed by February 2022.
