Under the direction and supervision of the area manager, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages. Care is provided in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports by understanding and applying the specialized principles and techniques of flight paramedic practice, emergency procedures and diagnostics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs a wide range of specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing and/or fixed wing and/or ground. Documents/Charts appropriate and accurate information for assessment and treatment during stabilization and transport. Clinically functions under the direction of the program's Medical Director through medical protocols and procedures and online medical guidance. For clinical matters, reports directly to the program's current director of Clinical Standards. Documents/Charts accurate and complete billing information of patient transports. Maintains and facilitates effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers. Participates in activities to support Public Relations (PR) and marketing efforts. Maintains knowledge base for flight paramedic role. Attends mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients. Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements. Responsible for knowledge of and performing within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services This position performs other job duties that include but are not limited to: base educator, social media and some public relations representative, office and clinical supplies, wellness, and safety. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Must have an active Paramedic Certification in the state(s) employed. Must have National Registry Paramedic certification if required in the State(s) employed. Otherwise, National Registry Paramedic preferred. Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP and PHTLS/ITLS. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred. Instructor certifications preferred Maintains all licenses and certifications required by policy. Must obtain specialty certification (FP-C) within twenty-four months of hire. The Emergency Department of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Kleberg is a 12-bed unit organized and designed for the immediate treatment of emergency medical and/or surgical conditions. We have a medical provider 24 hours per day, with An Advance Practitioner 9 hours per day. The Emergency Department had been designated a Level IV Trauma Center by Texas Department of Health. The department is responsible for initiating lifesaving procedures in all types of emergency situations and for providing emergency care for other conditions, including chronic medical problems and minor injuries and illnesses. After emergency measures are implemented, the patient may be transferred within the hospital, to another institution, or discharged home. Our average daily census is 60. The most frequent medical diagnoses seen are R/O Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Cardiovascular conditions, cardiopulmonary conditions, Diabetes Mellitus, Hepatitis, Pancreatitis, URI and Urosepsis. The most frequent surgical conditions are appendicitis, fractured hip and spontaneous abortion. The ER staff work closely with the community by providing education on disease process and safety measures. We also volunteer our time and service to help out our local naval base during events such as "Wings over Texas" and our surrounding areas with events such as, "Beach to Bay." Our team has been recognized for exceeding the goal for treating a MI or stroke patient. They have made changes to the overall flow in the ER to improve the door to doctor times and over all patient experience. We have earned the Silver Award from the American Heart Association for our Stroke Care. The CHRISTUS Spohn South Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Obstetrical Emergency Departments are all staffed by one group of associates that are crossed trained in all three areas. Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides and Unit Secretaries make up our wonderful team of associates. In addition, we have 24-hour CRNA coverage for maternity anesthesia and our OBED is staffed with in-house OB Hospitalist to accept transfers, care for patients and handle emergencies 24 hours a day. We average about 220 deliveries per month. We are capable of providing care for our patients in need of Non-stress test, Amniocentesis, Induction of Labor, Management of Postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or elevated blood pressure, and have the capability to begin an emergency section within 30 minutes of decision time and recognized as a Texas Ten Step for Breastfeeding.
