The Senior Quality Control Technician role in our Bloomfield, CT facility drives improvement in the reliability of CO2 Laser products. The incumbent will be engaging directly with a cross functional team on a wide variety of products to ensure our product and processes meet the dynamic laser manufacturing requirements. Working with a quality mindset team, this role will provide hands on support for the incoming goods, in-process, and final inspection of laser systems to ensure we meet Coherent Quality Standards. The Maintenance and Quality Control Technician will be accountable for the general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and be responsible for the quality of produced parts. This position is full time, on site in Chester, CT 3:30pm through 12:00am. There may be occasional overtime as required by business needs. Essential Functions: All aspects of maintenance of the assembly lines and quality control. Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair. Perform advanced troubleshooting to determine necessary repairs. Order supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance. Perform PM (preventative maintenance) on all assembly equipment. Basic milling and lathe work. Ability to use hand tools and power tools. Basic tool repair (grinding, polishing, etc.). Knowledge of general carpentry and repair. Use a pallet jack/forklift. Read and understand engineering drawings (dimensioning and tolerancing). Perform tests according to company quality standards; report results to supervisor for analysis and action steps. Consult with supervisor to determine appropriate recommendations and remedies for questionable products. Perform critical dimension checks on incoming products and raw materials. Use calipers, metric tape, and other measuring devices to determine fine color distinctions. Perform visual quality inspection of incoming finished products. Perform first-piece inspections and checks as noted on production sheets. Create NMRs and control rejected material. Provide support to receiving by identifying material as needed. Computer data entry using SAP system. General housekeeping. Observe all safety requirements. Must wear safety equipment as required. The Inspector IV reports to the Value Stream Manager or Senior Team Leader for production priorities and to the Quality Assurance Supervisor for quality-related matters. Create and maintain inspection documentation including IMS, First Article Inspection (FAI), and related quality records. Measurement & Equipment Proficiency Demonstrate mastery using basic inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, dial bores, chamfer gauges, and profilometers. Demonstrate mastery using advanced inspection equipment: optical comparators, Sunnen gauges, and Trimos height stands. Demonstrate proficiency using specialty inspection devices including Johnson tri-roll, sine plate, and torque gauges. Demonstrate familiarity with additional inspection equipment such as swing gauges, contracers, digital comparators, Cadillac gauges, and Keyence IM systems. Operate and program CMM equipment, including probe calibration. GD&T & Technical Expertise Demonstrate mastery in measuring GD&T characteristics including roundness, parallelism, concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, flatness, and total runout. Demonstrate proficiency in true position and material modifiers. Demonstrate familiarity with profile tolerances. Apply blueprint interpretation and advanced shop mathematics to determine appropriate gauging and inspection methods. Leadership, Data & Continuous Improvement Assign and coordinate inspection tasks to ensure production schedules are met. Provide training, guidance, and technical leadership to inspection personnel as needed. Use computer systems and software (including Microsoft Excel) to collect, analyze, and present inspection data. Maintain accurate records, logs, and audit-ready documentation. Recommend and support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S activities.
