1868

He established the monthly Literary Bulletin, his first periodical, in 1868.

1870

In 1870 Leypoldt issued the first edition of his Annual American Catalogue, the forerunner for Books in Print.

1874

1874: R.R. Bowker teams with Melville Dewey to publish volume 1 of Library Journal

1876

He was instrumental in organizing the American Library Association in 1876 and in founding the Library Journal, which he edited for more than 50 years; he also edited or published the Annual Library Index, the American Catalog, and Publishers Weekly.

1878

In 1878 Leypoldt's company was acquired by Richard Rogers Bowker.

1879

He also helped form the Independent Republican, or “Mugwump,” movement in 1879.

1886

At Bern, Switz., in 1886, representatives of 10 countries adopted the Berne Convention (formally known as the International Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works), which established the Berne Union.

1933

1970

A meeting was held in London in 1968 with representatives from Denmark, France, Germany, Eire, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and an observer from UNESCO. Other countries contributed written suggestions and expressions of interest. As a result of the thinking at all of these meetings, the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) was approved as an ISO standard in 1970, and became ISO 2108.

1974:R.R. Bowker teams with Melville Dewey to publish volume 1 of Library Journal

1988

In 1988 the United States, long a holdout, finally joined, and by the early 21st century more than 140 countries were party to the convention.

1997

1997: Thorpe-Bowker%reg; becomes the A.U. ISBN Agency

2001

In 2001, Cambridge Information Group acquired Bowker.

2006

2006: Resources for College Libraries™ database of core titles is launched

2007

2007: Bowker launches PubTrack™ suite of business intelligence tools

2007: Bowker acquires Medialab Solutions, developer of AquaBrowser® Library

After the sale, In 2007, Cambridge Information Group sold Literary Marketplace and other directories to Information Today Inc.

2008

2008: Bowker launches MyIdentifiers.com comprehensive identifier services site

2015

2015: Bowker launches a spanish version of Myidentifers.com

2016

2016: Syndetics Unbound is released (Syndetics.com)
