Peter Dicks settled. in Randleman-New Sa1em area in 1800 and built a grist mill on Deep River.

1807

1807 First Superior Court session was held in Randolph County in April.

1808

1808 Naomi Wise drowned in Deep River at Randleman by Jonathan Lewis.

1809

1809 First recorded reference to “new town of Liberty” in Randolph County deed registering transaction between John Brown & Jacob Warren.

1816

1816 Town of New Salem was organized.

1819

1819 Early libraries were incorporated in New Salem, Caraway and Ebenezer along with 32 in the state.

1820

1820 Elisha Coffin purchased Morris mills on Deep River, now site of Franklinville.

1821

1821 Bethel Friends Meeting established.

1822

1822 First Bible School in North Carolina held at Springfield near Archdale; sponsored by Allen U. Tomlinson of Archdale who conducted school for 40 years.

1824

In 1824 he moved to Asheboro and began the practice of law.

1824 Melanchton Lutheran Church established by members of the Richland Lutheran Church.

1825

1825 State Literary Board was established.

1827

1827 Asheboro City Cemetery was used for the first time (Marsh family plot).

1833

1833 First newspaper published in the county: “Southern Citizen”, edited by Benjamin Swaim, printed in New Salem; later moved to Asheboro..

1834

1834 Asheboro Methodist Episcopal Church, South, established.

1838

Second factory in the county built at Franklinville in 1838 by Elisha Coffin, Henry B. Elliott, Henry Kivett and John Miller.

1839

1839 Union Institute (so-called because it represented the united effort of local Quakers and Methodists) was founded at Trinity by Professor Brantley York, born in Sandy Creek area.

1845

Island Ford Factory built in Franklinville in 1845, is the third.

1847

1847 Franklinsville was first chartered as town, named for former N.C. Governor Jesse Franklin.

1848

Union Factory built in Randleman by Jesse Walker, William Clark, Joseph Newlin, James Dicks and William Hinshaw in 1848.

Columbia Factory is begun in 1848 at Allen’s Fall (Ramseur) by Isaac H. Foust, Washington Brower, Henry Kivett and David Kime.

1848 Hoover Hill Gold Mine established on the farm of Joseph Hoover in Tabernacle Township.

1850

1850 Asheborough Presbyterian Church established, located on the corner of the Fayetteville Road and present-day Worth Street opposite the present Court House (the site is now the parking lot and drive-through for Wachovia Bank).

1851

1851 129-mile-long plank road built from Winston-Salem to Fayetteville, the longest in the world.

1855

1855 St Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Randleman established.

1857

1857 Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting established.

1860

1793 Uwharrie Friends Meeting purchases lot; probably already established; meeting discontinued by 1860.

1861

In December 1861 they were sent to guard the Confederate prison established at Salisbury, NC; after this assignment the troops were assigned to other units and few students remained at Trinity.

1861-65 Male Academy on South Fayetteville Street in Asheboro used as barracks.

1864

1864 Peace candidates win all contested elections in Randolph, from sheriff to legislature and Confederate Congress.

1867

1867 Friends from a Baltimore Friends Meeting established a model farm in northwest Randolph near Archdale.

1869

1869 O. R. Cox purchased Cedar Falls Manufacturing Company with nine other shareholders.

1879

1879 Naomi Factory built by J. E. Walker, John H. Ferree, J.0.

1880

1880 Enterprise Factory established at Coleridge by James A, Cole, E. A. Moffitt and Daniel Lambert,

1881

1881 Worth Manufacturing Company built at Worthville, Doctor John M. Worth, President; T. C. Worth and Hal M. Worth.

1882

1882 First woman bookkeeper in county: Mrs.

1884

1884 Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad (30 miles in County through Liberty and Staley with branch line to Ramseur) built.

1886

1886 Liberty Baptist Church established in March.

1886 Captain Basil John Fisher of England purchased land in Asheboro, Moved here with Captain St Clair Winn and Captain C. Slingsley Wainman.

1890

1890 Randleman was largest town in the county, with population of 1,754.

1891

1891 Sophia Post Office established.

1894

1894 Directory lists 8 lawyers (all in Asheboro), 4 hotels and 12 boarding houses, 7 roller mills, 85 grist mills, 30 saw mills, 45 ministers, 2 weekly and monthly newspapers, 34 physicians, 81 post offices, 8 academies and 136 public schools.

1895

1895 Ramseur incorporated on March 31; named for General Stephen A. Ramseur.

Another fire in 1895 caused great damage.

1897

1897 Asheboro Telephone Company organized for providing telephone service.

1899

1899 Randolph Book Club organized in Asheboro.

1902

1902 Asheboro Baptist Church organized, on Church Street.

1903

1903 Asheboro Holiness Church organized; located first on Church Street, then moved to Hoover Street,

1905

1905 Randleman Savings and Loan Association Chartered.

1906

1906 Randolph County Court House built on Worth Street.

1907

1907 Randolph Telephone Company formed to serve Liberty area.

1908

Eugenia Moss McCain became first female Post Master in Asheboro; served for 42 years (until 1908). John Randleman and John H. Ferree bought Union Factory and changed name to Randleman.

1909

1909 Brick building erected for Asheboro Graded School.

1910

1910 First manufacturing company established in Liberty: Picker-Stick and Nove1ty Company (now Liberty Chair Company). Municipal water and sewer system installed in Asheboro.

1912

Norfolk Southern Railroad Co. purchased franchise in 1912.

1914

1914 National Chair Company established by C. C. Cranford.

1917

1917 Asheboro Hosiery Mills, Inc., established.

1918

In 1918, a new charter was received and its name was shortened to Franklinville.

1918 Liberty Broom Works opened for business.

1920

1920 First street paved in Asheboro.

1921

1921 Gregson Manufacturing Company founded in Liberty,

1922

Brokaw Estate purchased in Trinity Township; used as. hunting lodge by William Gould Brokaw; sold in 1922 after Manor house burned.

1923

1923 First woman laboratory technician from Asheboro: Miss Lillie Pearl Wood.

1924

1924 McCrary Hosiery Mill began operation.

1926

1926 Asheboro Rotary Club organized.

1931

In 1931 this Company was bought by the Central Telephone Company.

1935

1935 First golf course in the county: Asheboro Municipal Golf Course on Country Club Drive built with WPA money.

1940

1940 Oaklawn Cemetery started in Asheboro.

1942

1942 Liberty Public Library established.

1947

1947 Radio Station WGWR erected; first radio station in county.

1951

1951 Asheboro High School building on Park Street completed.

1952

September 1952 — Randolph Federal Credit Union opens on Randolph Air Force Base with nine members and $45 in deposits.

1954

St Joseph’s Parish (Roman Catholic Church) established in Asheboro; new Church building opened in 1954.

1955

1955 Ramseur won first place in its population class in the Carolina Power and Light Company’s “Finer Carolina” program.

1956

1956 Republicans reassume majority control of the County Commissioners; newly-elected Ira L. McDowell is named chairman.

1958

1958 Randolph County Center for Exceptional Children opened in Asheboro at American Legion Hut.

1959

August 1959 — The field of membership is amended to include Brooks Air Force Base and the Brooks Branch is opened.

1960

1960 Rampon Products established by J. M. Ramsey, Jr.

1960 — Randolph reaches its first $1 million in assets.Oct.

1961

Merged with First Union National Bank in 1961 on November 10th.

1962

1962 Land purchased for camp by Thomasville District of the United Methodist Church near Mt.

1964

In 1964 this library was moved to the new Asheboro Library building.

1965

Randolph Industrial Education Center opened for trade school training; renamed Randolph Technical Institute on October 2, 1965; later Randolph Community College.

1968

1968 Eastern Randolph High School opened near Ramseur.

1970

Tip Top Hosiery Mill operated by Arthur Ross, Sr., started operations in Asheboro; closed in 1970.

1970 Long-time Chairman of the County Commissioners, Ira L. McDowell, decides to retire.

1973

1973 Public libraries established in Archdale and Seagrove.

1976

February 1976 — The Randolph Main Office is moved into building #290 at Harmon Drive on Randolph AFB.

1976 Kiwanis Park opened, as part of Asheboro City Recreation Department.

1978

1978 Randolph Bank and Trust Company opens in Asheboro.

1981

Fellowship’s offices were housed in a building that served as RBFCU’s Windcrest Branch from 1981-91.Oct.

1982

1982 In March, Belk-Yates Department Store moves from its 50-year location on Sunset Avenue to the newly-opened Randolph Mall.

1987

November 1987 — The Live Oak Branch opens with the credit union's first drive-up ATM and safe deposit boxes.

1989

January 1989 — The Summit Branch opens at Summit Parkway and Loop 410 in its temporary home in the Corporate Square Building in San Antonio.

Stedman Manufacturing Co. organized, first manufacturing handkerchiefs, then T-shirts under wartime contract to the United States Navy; purchased by Sarah Lee in 1989.

1990

1990 — RBFCU introduces the "star and contrails" as the credit union’s corporate logo.

1991

June 1991 — The CashBack Mastercard® credit card is introduced.

1993

June 1993 — RBFCU welcomes the credit union's 100,000th member.

1994

1994 — RBFCU begins offering vehicle buyer’s checks for use in the United States and overseas to help members save time and money when purchasing a vehicle.

1995

October 1995 — RBFCU enters the Austin market after a merger with Central Texas Catholic Credit Union, adding about 2,500 members.

1996

September 1996 — The San Marcos Branch relocates to a new building at 1203 Thorpe Lane.

1996 Christians United Outreach Center is established in Asheboro.

1997

20, 1997 — The Schertz Branch opens, easing congestion at the Live Oak and Randolph branches and serving hundreds of new-housing residents who moved into the FM 3009 and IH-35 area.

1999

April 1999 — NetBranch Online is introduced as a fully interactive online branch that allows members to transact their financial business using a computer.

1999 A Walmart opens in Randleman, and a Walmart ‘superstore,’ the largest in the state at the time, replaces the original store in Asheboro.

2000

The new Randolph County Court House, under construction since 2000, opens the first week of July.

August 2000 — RBFCU breaks ground for the second New Braunfels branch at Highway 46 and Oak Run.

14, after closing its last manufacturing facility in Somerset, PA. The company had closed its boot and shoe manufacturing operation in Asheboro by 2000, when its facility at 414 E. Dixie Drive was sold to Schwarz Properties, LLC.

2001

February 2001 — A second location in New Braunfels, the Oak Run Branch, opens.

2002

20.January 2002 — RBFCU announces its 50th anniversary celebration, featuring branch commemorations throughout the year to thank members for their membership and unmatched loyalty.

Candace was awarded $304.11, the equivalent to dividends paid on $200,000 for a 30-day period, based on the current savings account rate.June 2002 — The Lockhart Branch opens in Caldwell County.

2003

May 2003 — RBFCU breaks ground for a San Antonio branch at Rigsby and Loop 410 South.

2004

January 2004 — The electronic bill payment service known as ePay is introduced, which allows credit union members to pay bills using NetBranch Online.

2006

August 2006 — RBFCU introduces a youth account, the Super Stars, the mascots of which are a brother and sister from a family of superheroes who go on adventures with their friends and teach the value of saving.Sept.

December 2006 — Randolph Brooks Services Group, LLC reaches more than $100 million in assets.

The Randleman Dam is completed on Deep River but Frank Kime, Executive Director of the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority, says that the construction of new bridges and access roads and design of the water treatment plant will delay the filling of the reservoir until 2006 at the earliest.

2008

February 2008 — Randolph-Brooks Real Estate Center sets an all-time high by closing $34,339,000 in real estate loans.

1, 2008 — RBFCU introduces a third credit card option for members, the Platinum Preferred Rate Mastercard, which offers a lower rate and a possible 1% off for members based on their relationships with the credit union.Oct.
