Hours of Work: 3:00PM - 11:30PM Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, and perform related duties as assigned: * Responsible for maintenance, repair and operation of central heating/cooling plants, back-up electrical power systems, HVAC, water and electrical infrastructure, fire and life safety systems, and food service and refrigeration equipment * Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment; inspects operating equipment and facility space temperatures; and responds to occupant complaints associated with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. * Maintain all logs, records and other reports on the buildings and up-to-date data for HVAC. * Install or modify wiring; assist electrician with repair and maintenance tasks. * Locate, request, and order replacement parts. * Enter and closeout work orders in the appropriate system (i.e., TMA, etc.). * Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment; inspect operating equipment and facility space temperatures; and responds to occupant complaints associated with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems; complete all preventive maintenance assigned within guidelines of departmental policies, and provide input on operational efficiency. * Assist contract vendors involved with testing fire and life safety systems. * Operate, maintain, repair and install all equipment as assigned in accordance with guidelines and department policies. * Work on advanced electronic controls such as computerized temperature control lighting and motor controls. * Maintain records required by state law and records for accreditation of correctional facilities. * Drive a county or personal vehicle to job sites. * All other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED * Knowledge of operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment. * Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and tools used in the maintenance trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electricity, welding and cement finishing). * Knowledge and background in heating, boiler and air conditioning systems, including electrical, plumbing and equipment repair. * Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the maintenance of facilities and equipment. * Knowledge of the various federal, state and local codes on construction, installation, fire, safety and sanitation. * Skill in problem-solving and conflict resolution. * Skill in time management and attention to detail. * Ability to read and understand blueprints, operating manuals and schematic drawings. * Ability to work from sketches, building plans, specifications and oral or written instructions. * Ability to successfully use County-specific technology and general office software. * Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally on job progress, as well as other records and reports required in overall assignments and responsibilities. * Ability to communicate clearly and logically both verbally and in writing; ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, correspondence and documents. * Ability to use tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as tools, computers, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, and office machines. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organization managers and staff, representatives of other governmental agencies, the public and others encountered in the course of work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * An Associate's degree or equivalent of two years of college or vocational school is preferred; * Five (5) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment, and a variety of building/maintenance trades; * State Stationary Engineer License; * Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record; * Or any combination of education and experience that provides the candidates possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties prescribed to the position (above). PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND HAZARDS OF THE POSITION Requires work involving standing or walking some of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurrent basis, and up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and high dexterity in operating office equipment, including a keyboard, phone, copier, etc. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, work standing for long periods of time, work in extreme environments. May be exposed to bright/dim lights, dust and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights.
