Jasper Mountain operates a school at both agency sites, SAFE Center & Jasper Mountain Center. We are a K-8 private school operated by Jasper Mountain, a private non-profit agency which provides treatment services for traumatized children in residential and day treatment settings. Jasper Mountain School is registered through the Oregon Department of Education as a Private alternative school. The school works closely with Springfield Public Schools and specializes in students with serious mental health and behavioral issues.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Oregon Teaching license or equivalent required.
Special Education Certification strongly preferred but not required.
Experience and/or training in child development including the implications of child abuse and its effect on the learning styles and behavior of elementary school-aged children.
A willingness to take feedback from the school Treatment Team to implement alternative and innovative instructional strategies for students with behavioral needs.
DUTIES:
Teach smaller sized, multi-age classrooms.
Provide individual, small group, and classroom instruction guided by teacher sub plans.
Follow individualized educational plans (IEPs) for identified students.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain classroom management and the ability to work collaboratively with classroom behavior/treatment staff, creating a therapeutic learning environment.
Have effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Other duties may be assigned.
Note: Agency practices include use of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) non-violent crisis intervention approach for de-escalation and safety. Training provided.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Substitute.
In this role, the successful candidate All classroom substitutes work in a needed basis. The shift will vary from day to day base on the needs of the classroom they are assigned to work. Shifts can be full day (8 hours), half day (4hours), or less than half day with a minimum of 2 hours once they clock in to work.
Job Responsibilities:
* Help to serve all meals & snack, assist children with eating, clean up of child and eating area.
* Keep classroom clean, following specific cleaning checklist (posted in each classroom).
* Attend to all physical and emotional needs of the children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
* Check children's supplies and inform parent when more are needed.
* Communicate thoroughly and regularly with the parents regarding all aspects of their child's activities and development.
* Help maintain daily attendance sign-in sheets and roll book.
* Change diapers and/or assist with toileting.
* Interact with the children: sit on the floor to play with them, read to them, etc.
* Hold and carry children when extra comfort is needed
* Attend to minor bumps and bruises (simple first aid)
* Maintain calm, positive manner in all communications: with children, co-
workers and parents.
* Support other staff members as needed.
* Keep toys clean and in good working order; discard broken items; inform director of needs for classroom toys/equipment.
* Upon arrival, greet all parents and children; assist with settling child into the classroom.
* Maintain a cubby and drawer, in orderly fashion, for each child with his/her name clearly displayed.
* On occasion, help with administrative duties (answering phones, door security, etc.) and other miscellaneous programmatic needs.
