The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Research Associate II.
This is a temporary position with an end date of August 31, 2026, renewable based on funding availability, work performance, and progress toward research goals. The role may require work during weekends and/or outside of normal business hours.
Purpose
Assist an interdisciplinary research team in the Bipolar Disorder Center / Almeida lab at Dell Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin with collecting and analyzing psychological and neuroimaging measures for the bipolar and major depressive disorder population.
Responsibilities
Develop, collect, conduct, and analyze research projects including psychological measures using standard interviews (self-report and/or clinician based) and neuroimaging measures as part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants.
Assist with data entry and database management.
Assist with IRB submission & management
Review medical records and conduct screenings for study recruitment. Execute data collection procedure and assessment and assist with subject recruitment, including obtaining consent of research subjects.
Help with subject management, scheduling and reimbursement. Provide exceptional support to research subjects via phone, email, etc.
Assist with manuscripts and publications (authorship will depend on candidate's initiative).
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of research experience in psychiatry, psychology, public health, social work, counseling, or related discipline. Compassionate with a professional demeanor, showing tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time management skills.

Strong computer skills with a variety of programs.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Master's degree with relevant laboratory experience in clinical research and/or mental/behavioral health field.
Experience with obtaining neuroimaging measures (MRI, EEG, etc) and/or administering neuromodulatory interventions (TMS, etc.).
Experience designing and managing REDCap database.
Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.
Experience with analyzing psychological and neuroimaging measures for the bipolar and major depressive disorder population.
Prior experience with peer-review manuscript preparation and/or presenting at research conferences.
Experience communicating with/submitting to/preparing documents for institutional review boards (IRBs).
Phlebotomy experience & certification, biospecimen processing/shipping. Experience collecting vitals and ECG data from humans.

Experience

Purpose
Position will be responsible for developing and implementing formative and summative evaluations of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education related projects, research grants, and contracted evaluation services.
Responsibilities
Grant Writing Assistance and Research/Evaluation Design
* Meet with potential clients to provide consultation on STEM education related research and evaluation design.
* Assist potential clients with the identification of key performance indicators and metrics, appropriate quantitative or qualitative data collection methods and instrumentation, and analysis techniques to address research and evaluation questions.
* Assist potential clients with the development of logic models for grant proposals.

Conduct Research and Evaluations

Develops and maintains a comprehensive plan for the identification, analysis, and communication of critical information and data to support the College's strategic and operational plans. Identifies, designs and executes quantitative, qualitative and survey research projects, providing input on design, development and implementation. Works with large complex data sets, including exporting/importing from various sources, cleaning data files and maintaining historical records. Prepares reports, summarizing data and analyses those present results in a clear and concise manner for multiple audiences, including the creation of clear and effective charts and tables. Maintains security of confidential student and employee information. Proofreads all reports, correspondence and statistical tables for accuracy and completeness. Maintains a variety of formats for disseminating key performance data about the College through reports, dashboards, scorecards and other methods. Extracts, manipulates, and analyzes complex data from databases such as Colleague, state and government databases, and other data repositories. Collects data, validates, designs and compiles the College's statistical handbook. Assists in developing systems specifications and reporting structures pursuant to the changing reporting requirements of state and federal government agencies, including, but not limited to THECB and IPEDS reporting. Assists in developing, updating and providing training materials to faculty, staff, and all constituents throughout the College to promote awareness and understanding in the Institutional Effectiveness processes and with collecting, interpreting and using data for further improvement. Conducts and disseminates research pertaining to best practices in educational/institutional research. Supports the accreditation process. Assists with the process for systematic review and evaluation of the planning unit per the model adopted by the College, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans. Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines. Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers. Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College ( TSC ). Promotes positive morale and teamwork within the functional unit and provides exceptional customer service to students, faculty and community.
