General Summary:
The Research Technologist II will perform lab work in the Akhtar Laboratory within the Host-Microbial Interactions, Inflammation, and Immunity (HMI3) Neighborhood in the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute at Lurie Children's Hospital. The focus of the Akhtar laboratory is to understand the interaction between viruses and the pediatric brain. To achieve this goal, the lab employs a diverse range of approaches, including animal models, cell culture models, molecular biology, and genome sequencing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing clinically relevant research in the laboratory, which addresses how variations within the viral genome contribute to different neurological outcomes and identifies critical components of defense in the pediatric brain against viral infection. This position will provide a strong foundation for individuals contemplating continued training in medical or graduate school.
The successful candidate will conduct experiments to support research in the laboratory, including viral infection of animals and cells, viral plaque assays, nucleic acid and protein isolation, PCR, immunoblotting, viral genome sequencing, generation of viral mutants, and microscopy techniques. Additionally, the candidate will be asked to record and interpret results, organize data, and prepare short reports to be discussed with the Principal Investigator. Finally, the Research Technician will spend a portion of their time performing basic laboratory maintenance tasks, including cataloging and organizing laboratory reagents, inventorying and ordering laboratory supplies, preparing chemical solutions for laboratory use, and performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment. As a Campus [Intern / Full-time] Researcher at Jump Crypto, you will have the opportunity to partner with senior Leaders of Jump Crypto and other senior researchers to help shape the direction of our strategic efforts. The Researcher role is dynamic. Depending on your strengths and interests, you may be looking for macro-level trends that will inform the group's future efforts, heads down on a nuanced issue advising our engineers or partners, producing valuable research reports, or advising our business development team on partnerships. Aggregate information from technical repositories, research reports, white papers, industry relationships, Jump Crypto's own data, as well as anecdotal feedback from our team or partners to produce valuable content, recommendations, or general advice to guide our group's strategy.
Look to empower the broader Jump Crypto team through great research that facilitates better deals, more robust product insights for our engineers, and more strategic partnerships for our investment team.
Make material contributions to Jump Crypto's partners through direct contributions or advice on code, tokenomics modeling, strategy, and other areas.
Produce actionable insights on incomplete data to drive decision making on investments and product strategy.

Intern description
The CRT research team is offering part-time unpaid research internships to qualified undergraduates in the Chicago area.Most of the work is remote; however,interns are expected to come into the office at least once a week in order to help with tasks on site.
The Summer cohort typically starts mid-Mayand goes throughmid-August, although scheduling can be flexible.
Interns will be involved in multiple ongoing projects, such as:
ongoing evaluation of the Trauma Treatment Program
evaluation of a grant program providing training in Youth Mental Health First Aid
the development of a database about children 0 to 18 who have participated in psychological evaluations at CRT
evaluation of the Youth MIND program, which provides trauma-informed screening, assessment, and therapy to youth and families in the Chicago area
evaluation of a gun violence prevention program being implemented in schools around the city
Interns will be actively involved in most aspects of the research process including searching for relevant literature, putting together research materials, interviewing families, inputting and cleaning data in Excel and IBM SPSS, and helping with data management and analysis. This internship does not provide any clinical experience, i.e., direct contact with children, but is geared for students who would like to learn more about the research/program evaluation work at a non-profit organization. Students will receive the necessary training to do these tasks on these projects and will receive supervision from research team members led by a licensed clinical psychologist. Interns are expected to work at least 6 hours per week, but more hours can be accommodated. Internships can be set up for one, two, or more semesters.
Qualified Applicants will be undergraduate students who have:
Completed at least one introductory course in psychology, behavioral science, child development, or social work with a grade of B or above, or enrolled in a pre-medical course of study,
Demonstrated merit in their undergraduate studies up until the present time,
Expressed an interest in pursuing future careers or further education in empirical research or medicine, and
Displayed the ability to work well with other people in a team-oriented atmosphere.
Compensation
Interns may be offered authorship on submitted papers to which they have contributed substantially.
