Peer Allies are students dedicated to helping their peers achieve academic excellence and social engagement. They will do academic check ins, assist students to get involved with academic resources, activities on campus and provide tools needed to be successful. Peer Allies will be non-judgmental, positive peer support. Essential Job Functions: * Peer Ally will attend all training, Leadership development and check ins each semester (Dates will be provided at the beginning of each semester, All are Mandatory!). * For each mentee, Peer Ally must: * Hold one minimum 30-minute in-person meeting a month with each of their mentees (lunch, coffee, walk, it's up to you!) * Electronically connect with their mentee (via email, text, groupme) once a week. Serve as a role model for incoming students. * Bring mentees to Promise Scholars events and other campus activities/ social events (Peer Allies must attend every event). * Assist mentees with signing up for tutoring, success coach, other resources, and using study spaces together. * Peer Ally will maintain a 2.5 GPA, meet with their Success Coach/Professor if needed and also utilize resources to continue to their academic success. * Peer Ally will communicate with Director of Promise Scholars if there are any concerns/issues with their mentee or they are struggling themselves. * Director of Promise Scholars will also reach out to Peer Ally to check on progress with mentees. * Peer Ally will use Teams group to record all interactions. Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Microbiology Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing quality control testing on samples received from clients, ensuring that our laboratory meets the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Quality Control Testing: Perform a wide range of microbiological tests on client samples, including but not limited to microbial limits, bioburden, disinfectant efficacy, total organic carbon, antimicrobial effectiveness, and endotoxin testing. Your expertise and adherence to protocols will ensure that all tests are performed accurately and efficiently. Compliance and Documentation: Rigorously document all data and test results in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in 21CFR210 and 211. Your meticulous attention to detail will help maintain the integrity of our testing processes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Laboratory Maintenance: Play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory. This includes cleaning glassware, monitoring and recording temperature logs, disinfecting hoods and benches, managing waste disposal (including daily garbage, biohazardous, and chemical waste), performing environmental monitoring, and mopping floors. Your efforts will contribute to a safe and efficient working environment. Inventory and Supplies: Track supplies and their usage in order to maintain laboratory inventory, including expiration dates and minimum quantities. Media Preparation and Culture Management: Prepare microbiological media and perform quality control tests on the prepared media. Additionally, maintain the culture collection, prepare growth promotion cultures, and manage other inoculation cultures. Reporting and Communication: Immediately report any Out of Specification (OOS) results or deviations from test methods to the Group Leader or Laboratory Director. Assist in the investigation and resolution of any issues. You may also be required to update clients on the status of their tests, as directed by laboratory management, ensuring clear and professional communication. Requirements: Experience: Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in microbiology, is highly desirable. Familiarity with GDP, GMP, and relevant microbiological testing methods will be a strong advantage. Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a life science is required. Microbiology or biology is preferred. Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while following safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are essential for success in this role. YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE We are looking for a Microbiology Technician in 7150 Windsor Drive, Allentown, PA 18106 USA. Your mission will be to: Purpose (Objective):The incumbent prepares samples for processing and maintains documentation of process to facilitate testing procedures. Main activities: ● Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending ● Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be tracked ● Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed ● Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process ● Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of time and temperature ● Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required ● Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence ● Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities ● Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis ● Read plates and tubes, as required, to determine the number of organisms in the sample ● Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process ● Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized ● Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required ● Adhere to all safety policies ● Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation maintenance, and improvement of the management system ● Perform other related tasks as needed YOUR PROFILE Must be able to work evenings and a Saturday Profile (required education/qualification and professional background): HS Diploma and 1+ year relevant work. The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time. Required skills: Time management skills, ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast paced environment. Attention to detail. Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples. Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.
