Job Description:
To support the research and development of next generation fuel cell technologies, our client is currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a position as a Fuel Cell Research Scientist.
This position is currently in one year renewal basis with anticipation of 3+ years of research opportunity.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate should have direct knowledge and experience in synthesizing electrocatalysts and fabricating MEAs/CCMs for fuel cells or PEM water electrolyzer.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Design and synthesize nano-sized PGM ORR catalysts for low-temperature fuel cells.
Conduct half-cell measurements using Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) and full-cell testing using Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs)
Perform Accelerated Stress Tests (AST) to evaluate durability, including catalyst dissolution and carbon support corrosion
Support related projects, involving water electrolysis projects, as needed.
Prepare and evaluate technical plans, reports, presentations, and proposals to support project success
Requirements:
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 4 years or more of related experience
Solid knowledge on electrocatalyst synthesis, MEA fabrication and testing for fuel cells and/or water electrolyzer
Hands-on experience on synthesis and characterization of non-PGM catalysts and/or OER catalysts is preferred
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team

Key Responsibilities:
Apply structural vibration and vibro-acoustic modeling to drive the development of next-generation inspection and metrology tools.
Perform modal analysis, harmonic response simulations, and transient vibration simulations using FEA tools.

Apply simulations based on multiple physical models and establish correlations with experimental data.

Ongoing projects involve documenting behavior of acoustic-tagged Lake Whitefish before and after experimental removal of invasive mussels from known whitefish spawning reefs in Lake Michigan and evaluating spawning activity of hatchery-reared Cisco stocked into Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron.
Incumbents will assist project leaders with (1) deploying and retrieving acoustic receivers; (2) downloading data from acoustic receivers; (3) preparing receivers for redeployment; (4) data entry and QAQC; (5) preparation, deployment, and recovery of fish egg traps; (6) processing of egg trap samples in the laboratory; and (7) other duties as assigned. Opportunities exist to conduct individual research projects and assist with projects of staff and graduate students.
Applicants will be expected to perform tasks in the field, laboratory, and office. Field work will involve working aboard small vessels on lakes and rivers in inclement weather.
Pay: $25-$30/hr (no benefits)
Qualifications
