Prairie Research Unit is a MAFES branch of the North MSResearch and Extension Center, which exists to serve the needs of agriculture in northeastern Mississippi. It is a part of the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine of Mississippi State University (MSU), the State's Land Grant Institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and operational tasks related to beef cattle production are included in the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. 1. Assists faculty, staff, and/or students with research and/or projects.
2. Maintains accurate and timely records related to farm and research operations.
3. Plans, coordinates, and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques.
4. Applies an analytical approach to the solution of a wide variety of problems, or applies specialized techniques or ingenuity in selecting and evaluating approaches to unforeseen or novel problems.
5. Demonstrates and applies thorough understanding of scientific methods, research protocols, assessment instruments, and data interpretation.
6. Designs, performs, and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
7. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs, as appropriate to the specific position; prepares manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication; presents research results to scientific conferences and other groups.
8. Independently performs most research assignments with instructions as to the general results expected; receives guidance on unusual or complex problems.
9. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
11. Summarizes and presents research results at producer/grower field days and scientific meetings.
12. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
13. Operates farm equipment.
14. Assists with cattle handling and care to include feeding and herd health tasks.
15. Manages and maintains property inventory reporting.
16. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in animal science or closely related field.
Licensure: Must have a valid driver's license.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with the education and/or experience of the candidate.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in animal science or related field. A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License or willingness and ability to obtain this license is desirable.

4. Will operate and work in close proximity with heavy farm equipment.
5. Contact with herbicides and pesticides is frequent.

The Southern Region of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) is seeking an experienced Regional Biologist for South Louisiana. The biologist will work under the direction of the Manager of Conservation Programs for South Louisiana and become part of a team of biologists, engineers, and other professionals that are based out of Lafayette, Louisiana. The focus of this position will primarily be the enhancement and restoration of wetlands and associated habitats important to migrating waterfowl and other wetland dependent fish and wildlife species. This position will assist with implementing conservation projects on private and public lands in South Louisiana.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in a natural resources field-an advanced degree is desired.
Applicants must also have at least five years of relevant experience and be knowledgeable about wetland and waterfowl ecology and management.
A strong background in ornithology with an emphasis on waterfowl and other wetland dependent birds is desired.
Experience in providing technical assistance to landowners on how to better manage wetlands for waterfowl is also desired.
Related experience in soil and water conservation as it pertains to rice agriculture is preferred but not necessary.
An FAA Remote Pilot Certificate for commercial drone operation is beneficial but not required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
Proven proposal/grant writing skills, project management capabilities, and wetland restoration and enhancement experience are necessary.
Familiarity with the region's biological resources, local and regional environmental issues, and private and public stakeholders is beneficial.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter adept at managing and delivering wetland enhancement and restoration projects with a focus on DU priority areas in South Louisiana.
Successful candidate will be responsible for administering and managing the Louisiana Waterfowl Project and Louisiana Mottled Duck Project. Two well-funded programs focused on restoring and enhancing waterfowl and wetlands habitat on private lands.
Duties for these programs include identifying potential projects, working closely with private landowners, providing technical assistance, coordinating with DU engineers, negotiating and executing agreements, managing project and program budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, drafting reports, working with construction contractors, site monitoring, maintaining relationships with public and private partners, and obtaining funding from a wide variety of sources for project work.
This also includes writing and submitting proposals to various agencies, foundations, and other funding sources to secure project funds.
Successful candidate must also assist with fundraising and outreach events, represent DU at wetland conservation venues/events, and help with other conservation activities.
Candidate would be required to establish and maintain relationships with key DU volunteers and development staff and provide DU management with timely communication on project work/issues.
Finally, this role will assist communication staff with developing articles to promote and describe DU projects.
This position is a combination of office and field work. Types of duties vary depending on scheduling, seasonal priorities, and other factors.

Center for Fisheries Research and Development
The Center for Fisheries Research and Development is a research unit at the GCRL campus of USM that has been conducting fisheries monitoring for over 50 years. Our scientists develop and implement research efforts that informs resource management at regional, national, and international levels. We work with state, federal, and community partners to ensure that we understand scientific fishery needs, and focus our research efforts on how we can promote sustainable fisheries and habitats. Our staff also serve on assessment panels to ensure our data inform effective management decisions. Job Summary
The Center for Fisheries Research and Development at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory campus of The University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time Research Scientist position; developing, directing, and participating in research projects relating to field based fisheries science. The Research Scientist is expected to maintain an externally funded research program in fisheries.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This gift will fund the construction of a new research building and the creation of three new faculty positions, along with new staff and graduate student positions. We seek to assemble an outstanding team of faculty to seize this opportunity and conduct research on laminitis, a painful and crippling disease of horses. The new team will consist of one faculty member at the professor level, one at the associate professor level, and one at the assistant professor level. Biomedical Sciences in Laminitis Research
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a twelve-month non- tenure-track appointment in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences (DCBS). Time allocations for this position are 90% research and 10% academic service, teaching, or clinical service, depending upon the individual's interests and expertise. Percentages can be adjusted according to the faculty member's professional interests.
The DCBS is home to 19 faculty, 25 staff and 28 graduate students engaged in research, teaching and service, with most faculty primarily focused on research. Current research strengths within the department include environmental toxicology, represented by the Center for Environmental Health Sciences, aquaculture, infectious diseases, and immunology. In addition to research, faculty in the DCBS are involved in the management and delivery of the first year of the veterinary curriculum, and members of the department play key roles in a program designed to provide veterinary students with a high-quality research experience in the summer. Faculty in the department are also actively involved in providing classes and training activities for graduate students. The three new faculty members for the Nancy Link Laminitis Research Center will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the DCBS, as well as clinicians in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine. Essential Functions:
The AssociateResearch Professor must be able to conduct basic or applied research related to laminitis in horses. They are expected to contribute to the design of the new research center and preparation of annual reports and MSU CVM publications.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD degree is required and a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from a recognized college of veterinary medicine is preferred. Applicants with specialty board certification are encouraged to apply. The Laboratory Research Technician for the Department of Microbiology will primarily be responsible for (1) organizing and performing animal research studies (including mouse breeding, genotyping, immunizations, sample collection, etc), (2) performing benchtop immunologic assays (including ELISA assays, Western Blots, flow cytometry, multiplex assays, tissue culture), and (3) bacterial culture and protein purification with biochemical characterization (including DNA isolation, recombination and cloning, and SDS-PAGE gels).This work will require teamwork and coordination with other lab members, maintenance of accurate and timely records of experimental procedures and results and maintaining supply inventories for the laboratory.
* Strong organizational skills.
* Familiarity with the principles of biology (preferably microbiology & immunology).
* Proficient research experiment skills and techniques.
* Proficient laboratory record keeping and maintenance skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
* Willingness to work in solo and team environments and multitask during the workday.
* Bachelor's degree
* Or
* High School Diploma/Equivalent and 6 years' laboratory research experience.
* Master's degree in a Biological or Chemical Science.
* Experience in rodent handling and tissue processing.
* Experience in laboratory techniques such as molecular biology, cloning, cell culture, ELISA and flow cytometry are desirable.
* Experience in aseptic techniques and culture and maintenance of microbial stocks.
* Experience in statistical analysis and/or big data management
