Child life specialists collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve the needs of each patient through developing and implementing interventions to help patients and their families cope with their hospital experience. The use of developmentally appropriate play and therapeutic activities allows for psychosocial development and normalization of the hospital environment. Hourly Range: $23.96 - $38.34 Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates developmentally appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to assess and interact with a diverse population of pediatric patients and their families. Designs and implements individual interventions based on assessment of a patient's development, coping style, diagnosis/ treatment, and psychosocial supports. Uses medical play and developmentally appropriate language and teaching tools to ensure adequate preparation for medical interventions and encourage understanding and mastery of diagnosis, medical care and experiences. Uses therapeutic/diversional techniques to support patients during treatments and procedures. Provides developmentally appropriate play and activities to support normal growth and development. Salary Range: $50,000 - $57,500 Position Summary: The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing affirming mental health counseling and case management services, particularly for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, with an emphasis on transgender, gender non-conforming, and nonbinary (TGNCNB) individuals. The Mental Health Counselor collects information about clients through engagement, observations, and assessment and guides clients in the development of skills and strategies to deal with their challenges. This role involves both direct client services and the supervision of Master of Social Work (MSW) and Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW) interns. The Mental Health Counselor will contribute to expanding the Pride Center's mental health services to rural areas, ensuring accessible, culturally competent care for LGBTQ+ individuals. Responsibilities: Counseling and Case Management: Provide individual and family counseling services, primarily to LGBTQ+ youth and young adults to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes. Manage a caseload of clients, including intake assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing support. Supervise MSW/BSW interns, providing guidance, mentorship, and evaluation to support their professional development. Offer crisis intervention services, including safety planning and referrals to appropriate resources. Maintain timely and accurate documentation of client interactions in accordance with state and federal laws. Program Operations: Collaborate with the Mental Health Director to expand mental health services to underserved rural counties. Assist in the planning and implementation of on-site and telehealth services in partnership with community organizations. Participate in the recruitment and supervision of MSW interns, ensuring they deliver affirming, culturally competent care. Contribute to the development and delivery of mental health education and training for staff, interns, and community partners. Ensure compliance with all clinical and ethical standards for providing LGBTQ+ affirming mental health services. Data and Reporting: Maintain client records and program data to track service hours, client demographics, and outcomes. Report regularly to the Mental Health Director on program effectiveness, client needs, and service utilization. Assist in preparing reports for grants and other funding sources as required. Collaboration and Leadership: Work with community partners to promote mental health services, ensuring services are accessible and responsive to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals in rural areas. Serve as a role model for MSW/BSW interns, promoting a supportive and inclusive environment Participate in regular staff meetings and supervision sessions to discuss client progress and address any concerns. Other duties as required by supervisor. Qualifications: Licensure: Provisional Counselor License required, LCSW preferred.
