2001

On April 12, 2001, Harvey Ball died at age 79 after a brief illness.

Around 2001, notably after the events of Sept 11th, Walmart Smiley stopped making appearances in commercials.

2002

Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, RushOrderTees began in 2002 in Philadelphia with Michael, Jordan and Alexis Nemeroff serving as its founders.

2003

In 2003, VH1 named it the best album cover of all time.

2008

Life imitated art in early February of 2008 when a big Smiley was spotted on the face of the red planet by an orbiting satellite.

In 2008, the Victoria and Albert Museum in England acquired his original artwork for $92,500.

2011

Finally, they announced a confidential settlement agreement in 2011.

2012

In 2012, they built a set up that extended into the audience for their 50th Anniversary.

2017

In 2017, archeologists dug up this old ceramic jug and when they assembled it they discovered it was decorated with that distinctive two dots and a curve–a Smiley face.

2018

In April 2018 RushOrderTees acquired the design firm Tonic Design based in Callowhill.
