Safety Harbor company history timeline

1842

Odet Philippe was the first permanent, non-native settler on the Pinellas County peninsula, acquiring 160 acres of land in 1842 in what is today Safety Harbor.

1869

Philippe was buried in Philippe Park – his former plantation – in 1869 but the exact location of the gravesite is unknown.

1936

1936 – Doctor Alben Jansik restored the resort and built a 45 ft. by 95 ft. swimming pool through which 8,000 gallons of spring water flowed daily.

1997

His vision to create a true resort health spa, with on site accommodations to house overnight visitors was at the forefront of the health spa movement, and “The Safety Harbor Spa” was born.1997 – Designated a Florida Heritage Landmark

2008

Historians know this after a 6,000 year old spearhead was found in the Marshall Street Park in 2008.
