By late 1924, the Board of County Commissioners began steps to construct a county courthouse.
In March 1925, the Commissioners hired nationally renowned architect Dwight James Baum to be the supervising architect for the courthouse and in June they approved the preliminary drawings.
In 1956, the Florida Constitution was amended to provide for district courts of appeal to assume a major portion of the appellate jurisdiction of the state court system.
In 1958, the first full year of the court's operation, those cases numbered 210.
In 1980 a branch headquarters was authorized and established in Tampa.
