Position Summary
Provides high quality customer service while performing a variety of tasks which may include washing dishes, pot and pans; serving food; delivering meals to the dining room, clean-up, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Washes, dries and stores all cooking implements, including pots and pans as well as dishes utilized by Residents.
Monitors for proper operation of dishwashing equipment.
Monitors and records water temperatures daily.
Assists cooks as necessary in production of meals; serves food to residents in accordance with established time schedules.
Performs and monitors all facility kitchen procedures in conformance with facility safety and infection control policies.
Cleans and sanitizes dining room tables and other work areas which may include oven, counter tops, shelving, walls, ceiling, etc.
Performs other routine cleaning tasks as necessary.
Works on the resident tray-line as needed.
Collects trash and breaks down boxes and transports them to the dumpster.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Participates in organizational activities/functions.
Qualifications
Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of moving and lifting techniques is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to make simple calculations, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing is preferred.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to take appropriate decisions during/her/his job.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year kitchen experience in an institutional setting is preferred.

Must complete a pre-hire and annual TB test screening.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs routine duties related to preparation and serving of food.
Must become knowledgeable on how to use special diet manual for patient menus.
Assist in supervising dietary functions and personnel in the absence of the kitchen manager.
Prepares food for cooking by washing, peeling, shredding, slicing and mixing of various food items.
Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, texture, temperature and appearance of food are preserved.
Operates dishwasher or assists with washing/sterilizing dishes, glassware, silverware, utensils, pots pans, etc.
Serves food in cafeteria for visitors and staff following dietary sanitary and safety guidelines.
Plate meals on patient tray assembly line following menu directives for determining food items for each tray.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Performs telephone, clerical, stocking and inventory duties as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality of all work information.
Demonstrates ability to function successfully in a team-oriented environment.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Cooks meats, fish, and fowl safely in a variety of ways such as baking, roasting, broiling and steaming. Carves meats into individual servings according to recipe and/or diet order.
Monitors and records temperature of steam table and hot held items throughout service period.
Tests foods being cooked to ensure doneness. Adjusts heat controls as needed. Insures foods are prepared, held or served at proper temperatures.
Produces food that is flavorful and attractively presented.
Only changes ingredients or seasonings when directed by chef or culinary leader.
Maintains product levels and appearance of service stations.
Consults with manager regarding handling of any leftovers.
Observes infection control and HACCP practices at all times.
Proper completion of all daily temperature logs and daily production sheets. Assists supervisor with corrections as needed.
Maintains kitchen/station in a safe and organized manner.
Manages work schedule efficiently completing tasks at assigned times.
Monitors cooking equipment as needed. Communicates with a manager to initiate any repairs.

Qualifications
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent; or in lieu of high school diploma/GED, must have a minimum of 1 year relevant experience in any of the following: cooking, production, or food service.
Successful completion of Safe Food Handler certification within 1 year of hire.
Preferred:

Completion of some culinary schooling
