This is done at either the Lincoln Park or Loop campus through patrol activity on campus and within university buildings, monitoring visitor access to university buildings, conducting foot patrols, locking down classrooms and responding to service calls and alarms and reports of suspicious activity. Assists Chicago Police and Fire departments with special detail, as needed, for campus activities and events. What You'll Do: 1) Performs Patrol Activity and Incident response. Makes frequent patrols, by foot and vehicle (LPC), of designated campus areas to watch for unusual or suspicious activities and hazardous situations, reporting issues to dispatcher and/or supervisor. Takes positive action on complaints/calls for assistance received from faculty, staff, students, visitors and others, providing excellent customer service. Checks office areas for suspicious activities. 3) Special Detail/Event Duty. Provides a variety of services to outside groups who rent space at various times throughout the year (Loop). Assists external law enforcement agencies during dignitary visits; monitors student events that serve alcohol. Handles a variety of issues related to events on campus including, athletic events, festivals, concerts, theatre performance, and move-in weekends (LPC). 4) Provide Escort Services. (LPC) Provides hospital transports for sick and injured individuals or as requested by University Counseling Services. Provides a daily escort service between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am for the safety of faculty, staff, students and guests on campus. 5) Property Management. (Loop) Responds to inquiries and enforces university policies on property removal. Assists with routing of deliveries at loading dock. 6) Test and Monitor Equipment and Emergency Radio transmissions. Tests emergency notification system on a weekly basis. Performs bi-monthly tests of campus emergency call boxes (LPC), and duress alarms. Office of Human Resources | Benefit Responsibilities Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituents, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Catholic and Lasallian Mission. * Act as one of the University's first responders equipped to assist in various emergency and non-emergency situations. * React quickly and calmly to emergency situations by determining an appropriate course of action and ensuring an appropriate response utilizing tact, diplomacy and good judgment to resolve the issue. * Conduct investigations at the scenes of crimes and accidents by gathering evidence; locating and questioning witnesses and giving aid and support to victims. * Appropriately utilize computerized law enforcement records systems. * Provide first aid including CPR and utilization of an AED. * Understand basic emergency response principles. * Respond to and investigate fire and burglar alarm activations. * Assist in implementation of the University Emergency Operations Plan as prescribed. * Participate in routine patrol and security activities. * Provide campus wide police patrol on foot and in vehicles to protect the University's students, faculty, staff, real property and equipment. * Investigate any observed disturbances, irregularities, hazards or suspicious circumstances. * Investigate calls for service of a non-criminal nature, and assess individual cases to determine appropriate action. * Complete special investigations as assigned. * Mediate disputes involving community members. * Actively assist and collaborate with other police, fire and public safety agencies as necessary. * Provide functional supervision to student workers and Campus Safety Officers as assigned. * Operate and service department vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable Illinois Vehicle Code provisions and University policy. * Perform individual post functions as set forth in department orders including checking, locking and opening University buildings and offices. * Provide motorist assistance such as vehicle unlocks and jump-starts. * Develop an extensive knowledge of the University, its policies, locations of building, geography and personnel, organizational structure, traffic flow, and problem areas. * Conduct requested and self-initiated security inspections to assist in environmental management for better security. * Provide security escorts to students and others upon request. * Perform crowd control duties as necessary during special events or emergency incidents. * Safely regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow. * Enforcement of State and local laws and University policy. * Enforce University Behavioral standards and policies firmly, tactfully, equally, and with respect for the rights of others. * Apprehend and arrest suspects for felony or misdemeanor offenses in accordance with State statutes and departmental procedures. * Enforce traffic and parking regulations as prescribed by applicable Illinois Vehicle Code provisions and University policy. * Demonstrate an understanding of department policy regarding limits of authority and use of force. * Possess an ability to manage conflict in unstructured, controversial or complex situations. ' Minimum Qualifications Candidates will have successfully completed an accredited police academy and be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as peace officer or have comparable education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma and a minimum of 60 hours of post-secondary education (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license with a good driving record. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. * Ability to walk, run, climb, provide assistance to persons in distress, operate required equipment (including police bicycles and various weapon systems), and work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions. * Must be able to work with flexible schedules involving evening, weekend and holiday work. * Ability to successfully complete various required departmental training programs (including police bicycle and defensive tactics). * Ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory and manual dexterity. * Must pass a psychological exam, basic skills assessment and personality profile. * Must pass a physical examination. * Must pass a background investigation including a fingerprint check and polygraph exam. Candidates must not have any felony convictions or serious misdemeanor convictions. Preferred Qualifications The most qualified candidates will have successfully completed a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution, s have previous public safety experience in a campus environment and be proficient in common business computer software applications such as email, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. The primary function of the Police Officer is to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and facilities of Triton College. In addition, shall be charged with the enforcement of all laws and ordinances, the preservation of peace, protection of life and property, the prevention of crimes, and the arrest and prosecution of violators, and other duties as assigned. The authority as a member of the Police Department shall be the conservators of peace and, as such, have all powers possessed by police offers in villages, cities, and towns along with the Sheriffs of Counties, including the power to make arrests on view or by warrants of violations of state statutes and county and local ordinances.
