A DAY IN THE LIFE Forget monotony when you join the tight-knit Morro Bay Harbor Patrol team. You may start our morning by welcoming a sailboat to the Morro Bay Harbor and assisting them with slip or mooring rental. After an hour of physical training (swimming, paddling, running, etc.), you get a call for an overturned kayaker. Once the kayaker is brought to safety, you assist the Marine Mammal Center in capturing a sick sea lion on the beach. Later that day you are called by a fishing boat with engine trouble a couple miles outside the Harbor. You and your partner tow the boat back to the harbor averting the potential for injury or property damage. Patrol hours are approximately sunrise to sunset, so you head home to dinner with your family and friends, where you talk about how you and your fellow Harbor Patrol Officers made Morro Bay a safer place. Provides public safety presence, crowd control, and public information to casino patrons, while enforcing casino rules and regulations, and deterring improper activity. Responsibilities Detects and prevents violations of casino rules. Stays abreast of casino rules and regulations. Protects casino property, building, grounds, and equipment from theft, vandalism, or damage from any source. Protects guests and Team Members from theft and injury. Protects property from theft, loss, or damage while the guest or Team Member is on casino property or grounds. Provides escort services for guests and their property as requested or assigned. Escorts casino assets and Team Members as assigned. Patrols the designated parking areas of Chumash properties to establish a highly visible public safety presence. Creates a visible presence to all that enter the parking structures, or onto parking lots. Enforces specified rules and regulations of the gaming operation in and around the casino premises. Inspects packages or containers that could be used to transport alcohol, drugs, or other contraband. Inspects proper identification to establish proof of legal age. Assists the public by informing them of casino rules and regulations or directing them to others for assistance. Identifies conditions which may result in injury or danger to or Team Member health and safety, or which might result in damage to, or theft from the gaming enterprise, its guests and Team Members and law and reports these conditions according to existing procedure. Notifies appropriate supervisors or Public Safety Officers of violations of law or casino policy. Takes such steps to prevent or deter potential violations. Informs or apprehends violator(s) as may be necessary depending on the severity and nature of the incident or violation. Reporting to the University Police, Lead Parking Supervisor, the Parking Officer will patrol campus on foot, bicycle, and/or by vehicle to provide enforcement of campus parking rules and regulations including issuing citations, immobilizing and impounding vehicles, directing traffic and assisting police with traffic accidents and emergency calls for service, assist with university events, providing parking information and general university information to visitors, guests, students, staff and faculty. This is a temporary, one year position with possibility of extension. The position works an intermittent hourly schedule that is provided ahead of time. Department Summary The Public Safety Unit is responsible for the safety, health and well-being of the university community. The Public Safety Unit consists of four departments; Cal Poly Police, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) and Business Services.
