A Police Officer assigned to Patrol operates under the direct supervision of the Patrol Commander and Patrol Sergeant. The Patrol Officer is sworn to enforce all laws and ordinances for which the Department is responsible; to protect the lives and property of all persons; and to maintain peace and order within the Village of Mundelein. When properly required to do so the Patrol Officer will provide any service that is necessary for the furtherance of the Department's mission and objectives.
The Patrol Officer will take the appropriate police actions, within the limits of legal authority, whenever and wherever required. The Patrol Officer will maintain professional decorum and will display a proper attitude in all dealings with citizens, superiors and other Department personnel. Training
Once hired, candidates will be subject to a field training process to be determined.
Work Schedule
Normally, police officers work an average of eighty hours per two-week period, which amounts to 2,080 hours annually. Currently, the patrol division works 12-hour shifts, which are re-bid on an annual basis.

Voluntary Retirement
- Police Department eligibility is age fifty (50) with twenty (20) years of service. Annual benefits equal to the product of final pay times the sum of 1) 50%; plus 2) 2.5% for each year of service in excess of 20 years, but less than 30 years. Maximum benefit is 75% of final pay after 30 years of service.

Mandatory Retirement
- Mandatory retirement age is 65. Employee will be vested in retirement plan with a minimum of eight (8) years of service.

- Final pay is defined as the salary attached to the rank held upon separation from active service.

* Final Average Salary is capped at $130,166.37, increased annually by the lesser of 3% (of the salary amount) or 1/2 of the annual increase in the CPI-U. [2]
* Survivor benefits reduced to 66 2/3% of deceased employee's salary at time of death (subject to cost-of-living adjustments).
* Cost of living adjustments beginning the year after the retiree or survivor turns age 60 with annual increases of the lesser of 3% or ½ of the annual increase in the CPI-U.
* Retirement pension calculated by multiplying 2.5% for each year of service by the “Final Average Salary,” capped at 75%.

Uniforms
The Village will issue uniforms to personnel assigned to the Police Department who are required to wear them. If an officer separates from the Police Department and does not complete his/her initial three-year period, the individual will be required to reimburse the Village for the cost of uniforms. Description of Key Responsibilities
1. Provide security services to the college community by enforcing College policies, patrolling campus, and securing assigned areas or buildings.

This position is responsible for the provision of law enforcement functions, technical aspects of law enforcement, coordination of specialty functions and security services for the department and campus. This position reports to and works under the general supervision of a Lieutenant. Depending upon circumstances, situations and operations, this position may also report to the Chief/Director and his or her designee.
Key Job Responsibilities:
A. Performance of law enforcement functions.
A1. Detection of violations of State laws and WI Administrative Code which occur within the legal jurisdiction of the department.
A2. Take appropriate corrective action including warning, citing or arresting suspected violators (criminal, traffic or alcohol related offenses).
A3. Conduct investigations of alleged or suspected criminal activity to arrest the perpetrator of the crime or to deter occurrences of any future criminal activity.
A4. Interview complainants, witnesses, suspects and others who may have knowledge of the violation in order to obtain facts and information.
A5. Record and document incidents by preparing written reports concerning those incidents.

B6. Provide directions, information or other services to faculty, staff, students and the general public as individual situations require.
B7. Assist Emergency Medical Services personnel during incidents of medical crisis, as needed and within the scope of training.
C. Performance of technical aspects of law enforcement.

LATERAL TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Employed as a full time and active law enforcement officer within the United States.

4. High School Diploma or GED and sixty (60) fully accredited college level credits within five (5) full years of their date of initial law enforcement certification by the State of WI.
