About this Position
Security Officers are responsible for maintaining the security of people, buildings, and their contents, and preventing break-ins and theft through guarding and surveillance. Security officers work in a range of environments and are expected to deal with a wide range of situations as they occur; ensuring that businesses, properties, and valuables are protected from harm. The role of a security officer will depend on the nature of the premises being secured.

Security Officer Job Responsibilities, but are not limited to the following:
Patrolling one or a number of premises
Monitoring activity outside and inside a premises through observation and closed circuit television
Signing in visitors to a building
Checking suspicious packages
Performing checks on building traffic (the people going in and out of a building)
Recording any suspicious activity and taking any necessary action
Guarding valuables or cash (typically in a secure vehicle)
Communicating relevant information to other security officers via communication devices
Giving directions and other information to visitors
Writing reports for the police or courts
Conducting general reception duties
Creating and distributing building access cards

Patrol
* Informs the supervisor of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention.
* Staff a stationary security position to monitor activities of staff, students, and guests.
* Patrol assigned areas of the university property securing building and making inquiries and inspection oriented towards protecting of life and property, preventing crime and accidents.
* Maintains regular radio contact with the Communication Center reporting any unusual situations and requesting assistance from police or fire.
* Properly investigate all assigned incidents that occur on university property and document the findings of the investigation on department report forms.
* Observes and reports any faulty or unsafe equipment and/or conditions.
* Enforces University safety, parking, and traffic regulations by the issuance of University citations.
* Provides emergency first aid to injured or ill person(s) and assists in the transportation of these persons when necessary.
* Admits authorized person(s) into secured buildings, facilities, and rooms during business and non-business hours.
* Responds to building alarms.
* Responds to calls for assistance.
* Assists stranded motorists by jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires, and pushing disabled vehicles.
* Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations.
* Provides basic information, direction, and assistance to university personnel, students, and visitors.
* Makes crucial decisions under stress and is held accountable for the result.
* De-escalates difficult situations and accompanies unauthorized individuals off university owned and controlled property.

Knowledge - CLEET Certification Phase I & II required, Phase IV recommended. Oklahoma Driver's License and good driving record required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Mental Effort - Requires the ability to handle numerous activities at one time. Ability to understand and interpret local, state, and federal regulations is essential. Must have the ability to interact in a positive manner with all MTTA personnel and the public.

Qualifications

Reporting to the Shift Lieutenant, the Airport Police Officer is responsible for police duties, security and safety functions at Tulsa International Airport. Occasional police and security duties at Tulsa Riverside Airport, and occasional VIP security duties. Works with local, state and federal agencies with enforcement of criminal laws, traffic enforcement and federal regulations. Investigates crimes, prepares reports and testifies in court.
Primary Responsibilities
Responds to all law enforcement calls on airport properties.
Directs traffic in congested and emergency areas.

Conducts airport safety and security inspections.

The applicant must pass the Muskogee Police Department's written examination and physical agility examination and be able to pass the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System's medical standards, pass all psychological examinations required by the Department and successfully complete state certification.
Internal candidates must receive at least an "average" on each rating on the internal evaluation form. If the internal candidate received a written reprimand their application will not be considered for six (6) months. If the internal candidate received a suspension or demotion their application will not be considered for twelve (12) months.
