Service Oil Co Inc company history timeline

1952

Originally located at the intersection of Cameron and Paxton Streets, Service Oil moved to its current location at 3798 Paxton Street in 1952 where it operated a bulk plant with a storage capacity of over 1.5 million gallons of heating oil.

He started with a 1952 Chevrolet oil truck with a 1200 gallon tank.

1958

The long and tedious divestiture process was completed in 1958, and the following year the Cities Service Oil Company, headquartered at Bartlesville, was formed to absorb all the oil companies owned by the original corporation.

1964

In 1964 PHILIP L TILGHMAN came to work for Tilghman Oil full time after graduating from Washington College.

1965

In 1965, Cities Service debuted its new marketing brand, CITGO; and the now familiar “trimark” logo.

1966

The company sells the feed business it acquired in 1966

1982

Occidental absorbed all the Cities Service divisions except for refining and marketing, which continued to operate under the name Citgo, with headquarters at Houston, Texas. It remained there until in 1982 it became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Occidental Petroleum Company.

1983

A major acquisition for the company came in 1983 with the purchase of Savory Oil in Vestal, NY. Savory Oil included a Chevron Oil Company terminal with direct access by pipeline to the Chevron Refinery in New Jersey and a storage capacity of six million gallons.

1986

In 1986, the second generation sold the company to six members of the third generation, dubbed the “Pepsi Generation”: Thomas Mirabito, Sr.’s sons Thomas, Jr. and Joseph; Rosario Mirabito’s sons Vincent and Ross; Angelo Mirabito’s son, Michael.

1990

In 1990 Tilghman Oil bought out Sharp Energy’s petroleum division.

1992

The Tilghman Family tradition continued in 1992 when Pat Tilghman came to the business to join his father.

1997

In 1997 Tilghman Oil opened the first of 4 marinas in Ocean City.

1999

Paul F. Lambert, Kenny A. Franks, and Margaret Withers Teague, Washington County: A Centennial History (Oklahoma City: Oklahoma Heritage Association, 1999).

2002

The year 2002 also marks the companies 75th Anniversary in the energy business.

2006

Also in 2006, the company acquires Oneida Lake Energy Products, Inc. and Convenience Express Stores in areas North of Syracuse.

2016

David’s son, Zachary, joined the family business in 2016 as Sales Manager and hired a sales force and support staff.
