Shawano Schools company history timeline
Although Jesuit missionaries founded a mission known as St Mark's at the junction of the Shawano Creek and the Wolf River in 1672, the first permanent white settler did not come until 1844.
In 1872 Father John Cheboul, a missionary, built an addition on to the church so the priest could live there along with a cellar and a belfry that he paid for himself.
By 1881 the parish had grown to 45 families.
March 19, 1882, was the first time two Masses were said on Sunday.
Work began in April 1889 because membership had increased so much that a new church was necessary. .A new school and sister’s home was built.
15, 1952, the first Mass was held in the body of the new church on the feast of the Assumption.
In 1994 St Martin became a co-parish with Sacred Heart.
In 2000 St Martin was separated from Sacred Heart and is served by Deacon Tom Craig.
While he was at the parish a gathering space, an elevator, brides room, and added storage space was completed as part of half the project to Renew, Renovate, and Restore in 2004.
