Shenandoah Medical Center company history timeline

1918

In 1918 the construction of Hand Hospital was complete.

1920

By 1920, thirteen doctors served at the hospital.

1951

Shenandoah Memorial Hospital (SMH) is a licensed 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Woodstock, Virginia that was founded in 1951.

1969

In 1969, the hospital board brought in two Lebanese doctors - a surgeon and an orthopedist.

1979

A new, 44-bed hospital with improved facilities was constructed and opened in 1979.

1993

In 1993, the hospital announced plans for an expansion to provide state-of-the-art treatment of cancer and kidney dysfunction, launching the Clarkson Cancer Institute and Kidney Dialysis Center the following year.

1998

In 1998, the Shenandoah Outpatient Clinic facility was opened.

2016

A new 45,000-square foot Emergency Department and medical building opened in June 2016.
