Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio company history timeline

1916

The Sylvania Franciscans were founded on December 8, 1916 as a province of the Sisters of St Francis of Rochester, Minnesota.

1917

In 1917, the Rochester community purchased 89 acres of land in Sylvania, Ohio and formally established this spot as the new home for the province known as the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.

1930

Originally from Rochester, Minnesota, these Catholic nuns established the Sisters of St Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, in 1930.

1969

Initially, Lourdes College was to provide young Catholic women with training as nuns, but in 1969, the institution began to accept women seeking a more traditional college education.

1975

In 1975, Lourdes College admitted men for the first time.

Rosary Care Center was the dream of Mother Adelaide in the 1940s, as a final living place for the Sisters. It opened to the Sisters in 1975.

2001

In 2001, the Sylvania Franciscan Community submitted a Certificate of Need to the Ohio Dept. of Health and were approved for Medicaid funding.

2003

In 2003, the Community received Medicare funding and became a fully functioning healthcare facility.

2005

Over 520 women have belonged to the Sisters of St Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, and the order had 242 active members in 2005.
