Substance Abuse Counselors are responsible for:
Conducts client interviews and assessments to review substance use disorder and treatment history.

Assists with and provides didactic group counseling, including psychoeducation, drug education, and family education to ensure peer support occurs.

Carries case load up to 25 clients, per State and contract requirements.
Collaborates with clients to develop discharge summary and continuing care and relapse prevention plans for supervisor's approval to integrate aftercare treatment with referral resource services.
Coordinates required services to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations in support of continued recovery.
Collects and maintains treatment records and reports to ensure organizational, regulatory, accreditation, and contractual compliance.
Performs office administrative duties, such as answering telephones; relaying messages; responding to inquiries regarding program services and policies; filing, photocopying and faxing documents; planning special events, assembling intake packets, etc.
Job Requirements:
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a helping profession from an accredited college or university.
Some previous counseling experience, experience in substance use disorder or mental health treatment is preferred
Must obtain certification as identified by state within 24 months of the first date that the counseling services are provided. Acceptable Certifications include Certified Addiction Counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselor's Association (GACA), Certified Addiction Counselor from the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor from the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC), and Certification as a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS). Under general supervision, counsel with emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification; perform a wide range of duties for assigned functions or program areas, duties may be complex in nature and may involve access to confidential information.
* Works with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health.
* May help individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse, family, parenting, and marital problems, suicide, stress management, problems with self-esteem, and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.
* Act as client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
* Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests.
* Counsel clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life. Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
* Evaluate clients' physical or mental condition based on review of client information.
* Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client's treatment.
* Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
Summary of essential job functions
Monitors resident's behaviors and psychiatric symptoms and intervenes appropriately as needed.
* Identifies emerging psychiatric symptoms and consults with appropriate clinicians in a timely manner to ensure proper mental health services are initiated.
* Conducts individual counseling sessions with residents during transitional periods and as needed to help the residents improve their coping skills through the use of basic behavioral modification and social learning principles.
* Constructs behavioral contracts for problem behaviors with residents and educates staff and the residents regarding the implantation of the contract.
* Provides positive reinforcements to resident's courage appropriate behaviors.
* Counsels with residents and staff regarding specific behavioral problems, daily decision making, and conflict resolutions, as required.
Coordinates residents' medication supplies, monitors medication inventories and refills, and audits all medication documentation.
* Coordinates residents' medication supplies upon admission, during stay, and prior to discharge.
* Monitors medication inventories and coordinates refills as needed to ensure residents have adequate supplies.
* Assists in monitoring medication funds for residents' medication and physician copayments.
* Audits all documentation of residents' medications and medical supplies (i.e. MARs, progress notes, inventories, refill logbooks…) to ensure that all records follow CIH/ECRH/DBHDD regulations.
Assess, create, and evaluate residents' recovery needs.
a. Conducts and coordinates assessments with residents upon admission.
b. Educates staff regarding assessments and how the results pertain to the residents' treatment goals.
c. Creates appropriate recovery goals based on assessments and following DBHDD standards upon a resident's admission.
d. Manages all Georgia Collaborative registration, updates, discharges, and documentation for residents, at 90-day intervals, or as needed.
e. Evaluates residents' recovery goals at three-month intervals and creates new recovery goals for them every six month, documenting in the CIH IRP process.
Monitors Intensive Residential Rehabilitation services.
* Monitors all residential rehabilitation classes conducted by staff to ensure clinical value, appropriateness to recovery goals and adequate documentation.
* Completes weekly summary reports of "Intensive Residential Services: (psychoeducational groups plus all activities and supportive services).
* Creates and modifies teaching materials for staff use, including a class outline and sufficient information and interactive interventions.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
Has been trained and adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"), as applicable by Agency policy.
Other supports / duties for the team as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A current Georgia license as one of the following: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC), Licensed SocialWorker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical SocialWorker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) that is in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient Computer skills including Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, and PowerPoint.
Good communication and phone skills.

These positions are in support of Moody Air Force Base either working on base with military members and their families or in local schools with high populations of military children attending. Provides the full breadth of MFLC consultation and counseling services to the command structure and military service members and their families at military installations. Responsible for providing MFLC services including non-medical, short-term, walk-around counseling, training/health and wellness presentations, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues with an understanding of the military unit, cultural and mission. Works closely with the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director, installation, and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to assure that the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation.
Provides non-medical, short-term, solution focused, walk-around counseling directly to eligible service and family members at assigned primary and secondary locations. Services include assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources (assuring linkage as appropriate), and follow-up as indicated.
Delivers training and health and wellness presentations, participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities as requested/directed.
Enters counselor activity data daily through smart phone, or web application, to assure that reporting is accurate from assigned installation, while maintaining client/service member confidentiality.
Consistently visible within the brigade/regiment which allows MFLC services to be accessible. Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources and provides appropriate linkages for service members and their families. Partners with POC to provide MFLC services in a manner that addresses the needs of the installation. Develops an effective and professional working relationship with the installation POC.
Provides MFLC response to critical incidents, surge and on demand events, and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager. Counselor will flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol and staffs the cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Communicates with Regional Supervisors and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations to which the counselor is assigned.
Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned/appropriate.
Participates in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed by the customer and/or Magellan. This includes participation in pilot program certification and training processes, completion of activity documentation, integration of pilot activities in non-medical counseling work, and the utilization of applicable technology to complete required activities.
