The system consists of two (2) sets of groundwater wells, each set with a treatment system, and six (6) storage tanks as well as the department's distribution system. Operators work M-F between the hours of 0700-1600. Operators rotate a 7 day on call coverage schedule, with a $200 per week on call stipend provided. Typical Duties Each day presents different challenges and learning opportunities as we work towards maintaining 100% compliance which is achieved by daily process monitoring and a comprehensive maintenance system. Working alongside a team, you will participate in the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities of the department's drinking water treatment and distribution systems. Work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. Our operators participate in an “on call” rotation for system coverage outside normal workday hours and shifts may include weekends. Requirements Preferably possess a minimum of Connecticut Class 1 Treatment and Class 2 Distribution Operator Licenses - or the ability to acquire these licenses within 2 years. 1-3 years' experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred. Proficiency with computers, including an ability to work with: SCADA, Microsoft Word, Excel, Maintenance Management Programs, and other site-specific systems. Participation directly in, and to a significant extent, management of the operation, maintenance, and repair of drinking water facilities throughout the last 5 years. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Connecticut driver's license. May require an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other personnel, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Familiarity with water treatment and distribution system processes with aptitude for laboratory analysis, record keeping, and facility maintenance. Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis. Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment. Must Haves For Role: Meets the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of these duties. Is able to be exposed to hazardous conditions. Is able to work shift, weekend and holiday schedules. Has ability to perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs and other manual work under adverse conditions.
