Mr. Hamakawa joined Sanwa Bank in 1978. After obtaining an MBA from Harvard University in 1984, he assumed a number of planning positions in the human resources, corporate planning, and other departments in the bank’s domestic headquarters. In 2002, he became general manager of the Kojimachi Corporate Banking Office of UFJ Bank. In 2004, he was appointed general manager of both the Corporate Planning Division and Integration Planning Office of UFJ Holdings. Mr. Hamakawa then assumed the position of general manager of the Business and Systems Integration Division before and after the merger between UFJ Bank and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. He became a managing executive officer and deputy chief executive of the Retail Banking Business Unit of BTMU in January 2009 and then group head of Corporate Banking Group No. 2 in May 2010, maintaining his position as managing executive officer. In June 2011, Mr. Hamakawa became a managing director of MUFG in charge of corporate planning divisions, including CSR. In June 2012, he assumed the position of senior managing director of MUFG while maintaining his jurisdiction over corporate planning. In addition, Mr. Hamakawa is a director of MUTB, and he helps monitor the management of MUTB with a perspective granted from his experience.
