Stahls company history timeline
What began as a small family-run lettering and imprinting business in Detroit back in 1932 has evolved into a manufacturer & company with operations throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and South America without losing its family values or roots.
The small punching shop enjoyed rapid growth and by 1940 it was one of the largest felt press shops in the USA.
After 1945, STAHLS' searched for ways to simplify the application of punched numbers and letters to sportswear.
The company’s first explosion-protected products were electric hoists developed from R. STAHL’s 1950’s “C Series” hoists, which offered multiple speeds and lifting capacities approaching 35,000 lbs.
R. STAHL brought its innovation and leadership to North America in earnest in 1979.
STAHLS' European subsidiary in Germany, based in Dillingen/Saar, was established in 1980 - STAHLS' Europe GmbH.
STAHLS’ International was founded in 1981 in St Clair Shores, Michigan.
Above is one of the first ten barriers produced in the United States, November 5th, 1982.
Another milestone in the history of STAHLS' was the year 1986, when the company began to manufacture its own heat presses.
These moves were followed by the acquisition of Clariant’s Leather Services Business, in 2014.
