This position drives informed Department decisions on new pavement materials and design strategies by leading and integrating findings from outsourced research contracts and in-house projects conducted through the Accelerated Pavement Testing and statewide experimental performance monitoring programs. Where You Will Work: Bureau Of Materials And Research / State Materials Office, 5007 NE 39th Ave., Gainesville, FL 32609 Your Specific Responsibilities: Oversees the daily activities of the Department's Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) and statewide experimental performance monitoring programs, including the US 301 test roads and Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS) test track projects. Develops, prepares, and executes testing plans to evaluate the pavement performance of APT sections. Collaborates with staff to conduct performance testing and maintain data reporting tools containing test results. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets collected data to prepare advanced technical reports for program participants and stakeholders. Provides regular updates on APT activities, key findings, and implementation progress during technical committee meetings, professional workshops, and academic conferences to promote knowledge sharing. Prepares and signs/seals related engineering documents and specifications as required. Manages projects and contracts. Plans and supervises the daily work of consultant staff. Oversees and manages the engineering activities associated with the Department's APT and statewide experimental performance monitoring programs. Continuously reassesses program needs and the relevance of related activities and deliverables to support a safe, durable, and cost-effective roadway system. Manages contracted research projects. Develops research problem statements, scopes of services, and requests for proposals. Serves as project manager or on technical review committees for contracted research projects. Performs thorough and highly technical reviews of proposals and deliverables. Provides technical comments and determines the approval status of deliverables. Facilitates the implementation of research findings. Provides technical support and expertise to Department staff, Industry, and other customers. As a Summer Intern, you can expect your experience to include the following: * Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and BIM leads to execute work on water and wastewater treatment and conveyance infrastructure projects. * Assist in the preparation of engineering and design deliverables including drawings, specifications, technical memoranda, reports, schedules, and figures. * Communicate effectively and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams (e.g., drafters, designers, engineers). * Perform edits and updates in Revit and AutoCAD models based on engineering changes and markups. * Participate in the full project lifecycle, including design, documentation, and construction support. * Conduct field work such as site investigations and construction observations as needed. * Support data-related tasks including entry, analysis, visualization, and documentation to inform design decisions. * Check design deliverables for consistency, readability, and adherence to standards and specifications. * Provide engineering services during construction, including performance checks and conformity assessments. * Manage and deliver assignments on time, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills. * Complete an Internship Capstone project demonstrating skill development, learning, and accomplishments gained during the summer internship experience.
