No Position Purpose The General Manager of the Department of Theater is responsible for the administration, coordination, communication, and planning involved in producing the department's annual slate of shows, including MainStage and all levels of student productions and noncurricular events (these can include workshops and collaborations with student organizations). While the faculty are collectively responsible for vision-setting, choosing shows, defining the pedagogical principles, and vetting potential guest artists, the General Manager handles the day-to-day decisions, communications, budgeting, and troubleshooting required to coordinate all the components of a successful production program. The General Manager position is the communication node linking three groups who each contribute in different ways to the production program: the faculty; the Production Manager and production staff; administrative staff (Department Chair, Department Administrator, Academic Coordinator). The General Manager works to support the department's mission campuswide. The GM is responsible for the managerial aspects of the season. * Oversees the production manager, technical director, and costume shop manager and coordinates with the department administrator in the development and execution of production budgets. * With the approval of the chair, negotiates terms with and hires creative personnel not paid by course count. * Oversees onboarding and communication with creative personnel and visiting artists. Works with the department administrator to coordinate travel and housing logistics. * Markets the season with the goal of selling tickets and attracting a broad audience to the department's performances. * Coordinates and enacts outreach to the campus at large about all department related activities throughout the year. * Along with the chair and the department administrator, handles contracts, insurance, and other legal matters as they relate to the department's season of productions. * Advises and coordinates on problem solving and crisis management during production. Percentage Of Time 45% Description Supervising * The GM supervises the production manager. * Supervises the production manager through weekly 1:1 sessions and other regular check-ins, as well as guides the workload and helps to set the priorities of the production manager. * Advises the production manager on supervision of their staff. * At the request of the chair, provides feedback on other staff. This pertains particularly to the department administrator, a role which works closely with the GM at times. * Works closely with the department administrator to coordinate production related issues. Percentage Of Time 25% Description Marketing and Communications * The GM serves as the central communications and marketing hub for the department. * In coordination with the department faculty and staff, creates and executes systems for outreach, including gathering materials for social media and making connections with people around campus. * Along with the chair, ensures clear and thorough communication of planning, coordination, and communication about all non-classroom department related matters to both external and internal stakeholders. * Along with the chair, defines the marketing and external communication goals of the department, particularly as they pertain to the department's annual slate of productions. * Devises marketing plans and strategies that align with the department's marketing and communication goals. * Executes, manages, and/or delegates action items from marketing and communication plans. * Acts as the communications liaison for campus, local, regional, and national partners - including the Hopkins Center, student groups, other arts departments, and others - in non-classroom matters. Percentage Of Time 20% Description Consulting and Advising * At the request of faculty or staff, the GM serves as a consulting advisor on matters pertaining to production, department policies and governance, or other matters as desired by faculty or staff. Percentage Of Time 5% Description Student Support * The GM supports student efforts both in the department and beyond. The GM: * Along with the Chair, creates strategies to expand departmental funding for student projects and education. * Maintains communication lines with student theater organizations. In addition. OPO advises the Dartmouth Outing Club, the largest and oldest college outing club in the country. In partnership with our student leaders, we offer trips, outdoor education seminars, workshops, and courses. The Outdoor Programs Office is a part of Community and Campus Life at Dartmouth. Moosilauke hospitality is a tradition dating back to 1920. Over the years, Dartmouth folks have turned to the mountain for educational programs, reunions, and to enjoy the woods. The Ravine Lodge is the heart of this common ground for students, faculty, alumni, friends of Dartmouth, and the greater public. The crew serves family-style meals and tends to five rustic, hostel-style bunkhouses. Working at the Lodge means being part of the stewardship of a place so central to the Dartmouth community. The Moosilauke Ravine Lodge Assistant Manager assists the manager in leading the operations of the Lodge and crew. They also share the responsibilities of the crew which involves a variety of work, including menu planning, cooking, taking reservations, handling payment, helping with event planning, setting up the dining room, cleaning, gardening, splitting wood, and other projects. All crew members will be trained in these roles! Room and board included. We are hiring for three seasonal assistant managers (spring, summer, and fall).
