A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIETARY AIDE
As a Dietary Aide, you play a vital role in our community. Without you, we would not be able to provide quality service in delivering meals to our residents! You assist in preparing and serving meals to our residents, starting with carefully setting up trays and serving regular meals, preparing snack items and food requests for special events. You deliver a high level of customer service by distributing food in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual resident meals according to specified diet orders and an approved menu.
With a close eye for detail, you ensure the quality and temperature of food items. You also deliver and retrieve trays by the end of meal dining time and wash dishes.
You take great care to enhance safety and sanitary conditions which may include, but not limited to, picking up food and trash, cleaning tables, chairs, and other food service equipment and utensils. You live up to the trust of those in your care by complying with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations, maintaining knowledge of and following all company policies and procedures. Your warm and friendly demeanor makes it easy for you to provide excellent customer service and build relationships with residents, their families, visitors, and your colleagues. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DIETARY AIDE
Must have ability to perform basic arithmetic, understand measurements and follow written and oral instructions.
No experience required. A willingness to learn is needed.
Solid communication skills, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate resident needs.
Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with residents, vendors and team members.
Experience in a geriatric nursing facility is preferred but not required. Are you trustworthy and respectful of others? Department/Unit: AMCH - Medical Nutrition Therapy Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $38,937.60 - $50,618.88 Under the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, provides clinical support to the team of acute care dietitians by conducting nutrition screening of inpatients, following up on nursing admission nutrition screening triggers, following up on patients who meet the length of stay criteria according to department policies, collects nutrition related data from patient visit, reports pertinent clinical information back to the dietitians for further interventions as necessary and provides basic diet education when appropriate. Works closely with department staff and other disciplines to ensure the nutrition needs of the patient are met.
Under the direction of the Clinical Dietitians, assists with inpatient screening for nutritional risk and poor oral intake. Completes documentation of patient visits in the electronic medical record.
Effectively interacts with patients, families and staff to manage menus and food preferences to meet patient needs and improve outcomes.
Maintains an efficient and effective program of patient contact by assisting the Clinical Dietitian with initial visitation, meal rounds, snack/supplement rounds and obtaining food preferences.
Assists with managing specialty menus for allergies, calorie restrictions, halal, kosher, and vegan. Assists dietitian with special menu processes, i.e. red star menus, as needed.
Communicates effectively with Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Data Center and Food Service Supervisors to meet patient's nutritional needs.
Notifies Dietitian, Food Service Supervisor, Clinical Nutrition Manager or Patient Services Manager immediately when patient and nursing services complaints are received; details complaint and any service recovery activities that have been initiated.
Follows established guidelines and uses appropriate food service communication procedures for any necessary nutritional intervention (i.e. communicating food preference, obtaining snacks, notifying dietitian of request for oral supplements, food service complaints, etc).
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately to the age of the patients being served (pediatric, adult, geriatric).
Participates in activities to improve/promote department.
Performs assigned duties (i.e. in-services, quality assurance monitoring, projects) to enhance departmental quality and efficiency.
May participate in the completion of test trays for department quality improvement monitoring and reporting.
Under emergency situation may perform other duties as needed.
May be required to cross train for the Feeding Technician position and assist with formula preparation as needed.
Maintains accurate records as required by regulatory agencies and department policies.

Reviews menus for conformity to physician ordered diet. Maintains updated diet records and implements accurate diet changes utilizing the medical record and electronic menu system. May visit or call patients to obtain menu selections. Communicates patients' nutritional concerns with the diet technician and/or registered dietitian. Performs clerical work related to Diet Office functions.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Processes menus.
Obtains “room service” choices from OB patients, usually via phone, but sometimes in person.
Prepares menus for delivery utilizing appropriate editing stamps and name labels.
Performs menu tally before each meal, comparing menus to kardex/diet orders to ensure accuracy. Records specials for cooks/food service aides and performs other required documentation on appropriate forms.
Tallies special diets, regular diets, tube feedings, hyperal patients, NPO patients each morning.
Answers phone and processes orders/messages completely and accurately as directed. Maintains phone log, late tray log, kardexes, and other documentation as directed.
Processes diet and supplement orders/requests as directed.
Researches and clarifies diet order discrepancies.
Communicates with staff members.
Confers with dietetic technician and/or registered dietitian regarding diet order discrepancies and any information obtained on patients' food preferences and/or tolerances that do not comply with diet order.
Communicates with patient care unit any questions on diet orders.
Communicates any change in menu/diet to patient directly or through Dietetic Technician.
Conveys messages to others in a timely manner and with complete information.
Performs other tasks as required.
Works on tray line as line leader to assemble trays and assure accuracy of patient trays. Requests needed items from cook or appropriate Food & Nutrition department employee. Insures that patient receives correct meal selection and proper portion sizes. Ensures temperatures are taken and recorded on Temperature Log.
Maintains clean and orderly office environment.
Inventories menus once per month and prepares order.
Inventories supplements once per week, compares inventory to current usage, and prepares order.
May assist in other Food & Nutrition areas according to department needs.
Demonstrates dependability.
Follows directions without repeated instruction.

Follows safety and sanitation rules at all times.

Job Summary:
Process utensils and dishware for patients, cafeteria, and catered meals. Prepare and assemble foods for patients. Assemble patient meal trays and nourishments. Deliver patient meal carts and nourishment stock. Perform janitorial duties as assigned.

Job Description:
Delivery: Deliver and retrieve room service meal carts and stock to patient care units. Coordinate with ambassadors on timing and placement of carts and ASAP trays. Add any assigned items to carts as needed.
Retrieval: Pick up dirty tray carts, replace with clean carts. Deliver dirty tray carts to dish room.
Cleaning: Perform janitorial tasks such as cleaning equipment and work surfaces, mopping, sweeping and trash disposal.
Dishware: Process all utensils and dishware through automated dish machine for patients, cafeteria and catered food service in accordance with sanitary guidelines.
Dishware: Restock clean dishware in cafeteria, cook's and room service line areas to meet service needs.
Cleaning: Perform janitorial tasks such as cleaning equipment and work surfaces, mopping, sweeping and trash disposal.
Quality: Compliance with all local, state, federal and medical center regulatory, safety, sanitation and security standards. Participate in performance improvement (PI) studies; assist with data collection and supports action plans
