JOB SPECIFIC: The Georgia Department of Transportation's Legislative Affairs team functions as a liaison between the department, the Governor's Office, state agencies, and state, federal, and local elected officials. The Legislative Affairs intern works closely with the Director of Policy and Government Affairs and the Government and Legislative Relations Specialist. Day to day responsibilities of the legislative affairs intern includes helping manage the legislative inquiry system, preparing briefings and internal documents, tracking legislation, attending House and Senate committee meetings, and conducting various research projects. During the legislative session, interns are responsible for attending House and Senate Floor Sessions and committee hearings and tracking legislation as it passes through both chambers.

Development of research on markets, industries, and companies;
Source and critically evaluate data, providing insightful analysis and visual presentations;

Assist in developing and delivering presentations for internal or client-facing purposes;

Education and Licensure
Currently registered in a Bachelor's or Master's university degree program in a relevant technical discipline. (required)
Upper division (e.g. senior) or Master's enrollment. (preferred)
Degree focus areas in economics, math, finance, geology, environmental science, or engineering. (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral, and written communication, and problem-solving skills. (required)
Strong work ethic, ability to work independently and as part of a team. (required)
Position may also require health and safety training for working in the field as part of our corporate Health and Safety procedures.
Solid general technical/analytical capabilities, including the ability to learn new software quickly. (required)

SPRING INTERN - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
The Spring Intern will assist in the operations and execution of Economic Development's programs and initiatives, supporting events, organization of materials, and research.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with data collection and analysis
Support event logistics and planning
Conduct property/business inventories
Maintain spreadsheets and presentations
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A Junior, Senior, or recent Graduate (within the last year), majoring in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Horticulture Environmental Design/Sustainable Design, Biology, Ecology or related major preferred; Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent oral and written communications skills are all essential to this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment including calculator, computer keyboard, computer word processing or other programs, telephone, telephone console, or copy machine as required

Interns are classified as non-exempt, temporary employees and may be scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week. While they are paid hourly, they are not eligible for benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions due to their temporary status.

United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States
Current enrollment in a college, university, or technical school (or recently graduate within the last year)
Current grade point average of 3.0 or better
