The Real Estate Paralegal will report to Carvana's Real Estate Associate General Counsel and work closely within Carvana's Real Estate Legal, Portfolio Management and Licensing teams. Ideally, a candidate for the position should bring 5 or more years of relevant experience in a corporate, legal or team-centric environment, with some combination of transactional real estate, portfolio management and lease administration, and licensing experience. While there is meaningful overlap across these domains, this role is designed to serve as a connective, high-impact resource for routine and moderately complex work that does not require continuous attorney involvement. The Paralegal will drive execution on core, recurring legal tasks, ensuring attorney resources remain focused on attorney-level matters as volume ramps. This position is critical to maintaining a responsive, efficient workflow and will also provide day-to-day support for lease administration and landlord-tenant matters. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional who can work independently and is comfortable operating at scale with high responsiveness. This candidate will partner closely with attorneys and other team members for oversight, collaboration or signoff as needed, and must bring judgment and analytical rigor to “run the business” legal operations.
This is a fully on-site position, Monday through Friday, at our corporate HQ in Tempe, Arizona.
What you'll be doing
Supporting the real estate Legal, portfolio management and licensing teams, as well as the broader real estate and legal departments, to lead or support legal workflow related to real estate transactions and growth, portfolio management and regulatory licensing
End-to-end management, with attorney supervision, of legal drafting, revision and approval of standard contracts and ancillary legal documents such as templates, notices, etc.
Contract review, interpretations and risk analysis, in support of attorneys, real estate, portfolio management, facilities and other teams
Lead or support various lease administration workflow and functions, including but not limited to lease abstracting, high-impact landlord-tenant communication or notices that require legal input or consideration
Autonomously handle routine and recurring portfolio management or lease administration matters such as estoppels, SNDAs, access requests, etc.
Support contract drafting, review and negotiation efforts in real estate transactions (purchases, leases, dispositions, etc.)
Assist in title/survey review, diligence checklists, and closing binders
Work closely with manager and team to simplify and offload legal workflow that may be more efficiently or effectively shouldered by this role, rather than elsewhere within the team
Support Legal Operations functions, Licensing team functions and other core responsibilities of the team ad hoc as needed
What you should have/know
5+ years of experience in a legal setting, including a blend of transactional real estate, portfolio management/lease administration, and licensing work.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, a paralegal certificate or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in project management, organizational and time-management responsibilities with ability to identify specific goals and to work collaboratively within a team to accomplish those goals.
Demonstrated proficiency in and aptitude for project, file management and task tracking, transaction / closing management and anticipating next steps in legal workflow.
Initiative and desire to independently complete tasks that enable greater team efficiencies and results, while having the self-awareness to not implement change without consideration for collateral / unintended impacts.
Demonstrated knowledge and progressive proficiency of Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign and aptitude for project management tools and software.
Demonstrated familiarity and proficiency utilizing AI responsibly to simplify legal tasks.
Strong initiative and ability to use creative problem solving skills and risk management to address support and process needs within a team.
