1968

In January 1968, the Intergroup Human Relations Center opened on the campus of California State University, Long Beach.

1971

By early 1971, the academic functions of the Center had diminished; to some extent they had been taken over by the newly created Afro-American Studies Department.

1978

The UCC was formally established in 1978 with a council of representatives from Stony Brook's Black and Latino organizations, joined by Black and Latino faculty and staff.

1988

The current Multicultural Student Center (MSC) was founded in 1988.

1997

Social Justice Definition – Adams, Bell & Griffin (1997) “The goal of social justice education is full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs.

2002

Since 2002, it has been coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

2007

Dean Berquam recommended that two separate Think Tanks be formed to discuss the campus wide impact of these positions and that the Think Tank groups would create responsibilities for these positions. It was determined that all of these positions would be permanently funded and funds would become available on July 1, 2007.

2016

In Fall 2016, the UCC opened its doors temporarily in the Student Activities Center (SAC). The facilities in the SAC allowed for a variety of small-scale campus programs and meetings hosted by cultural student organizations and University departments.
