The Johns Hopkins Hospital - The Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center provides the following pediatric cardiac services including heart transplant evaluation, the management of complex heart rhythm problems, congenital heart disease, fetal cardiology, general cardiology, genetic cardiology, and interventional cardiac catheterization. The clinic serves as the hub of all the complex services provided and is run by a multi-disciplinary team made up of physicians, nurses, certified medical assistants, respiratory therapists, and technicians. The RN will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, manage phone and EPIC messaging for the general pediatric cardiology patient population, support the anticoagulation program, and manage patient flow through clinic visits.
The ideal candidate for this role should have clinical experience in Pediatric Cardiology, preferably in Pediatric or Adult EP. They must possess excellent communication and organizational skills to convey complex medical information to patients and families. An eagerness to acquire new technical skills is essential, including working with pacemaker and ICD remote monitoring programs, scheduling complex cardiac procedures, and learning to download and check pacemakers and ICDs in both pediatric and adult congenital cases. Attention to detail is crucial for patient safety, so the ideal candidate should be detail-oriented and highly organized to maintain follow-up and to-do lists for physicians.
This position also involves a significant teaching component, which includes providing pre- and post-procedure instructions and educating families on proper pacemaker and ICD care after implantation. You will collaborate closely with an experienced senior Peds EP nurse and two pediatric electrophysiologists in the clinic and occasionally on the wards. Evaluates specificity and completeness of physician documentation to ensure optimal coding (e.g. mortality outcomes using APR-DRG, SOI and ROM, appropriate reduction of complications based on PSI and HAC, revenue assurance outcomes based on reimbursement DRG (MS-DRG), documentation of significant chronic conditions affecting resource utilization based on HCC).
Summarizes audit findings for individual records along with specific documentation guidelines to improve expected clinical outcomes for an individual physician, physician practice, or specialty.
Conducts follow-up audits (i.e. concurrent or post-discharge) with routine feedback until documentation practice comes into line with expected clinical outcomes.
Works with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Director and Lead Auditor on other work related to physician audits and education programs.
Demonstrates proficiency with Cobius to access external audit work, record summary results and upload appeal letters.
Demonstrates proficiency with Encompass 360 and HDM audit functions to review electronic medical records with advanced functions (i.e. ex, auto-suggest and search) and record detail coding audit results.
Showcases proficiency in reviewing records in Epic electronic medical records - which may be the only option for audits of older records.
Demonstrates proficiency in writing effective appeal letters that include appropriate coding guidelines and medical references.
Identifies trends in external audit findings related to coding quality and physician documentation. Prepares educational communications related to these findings.
Evaluates physicians' documentation, diagnostic reports, and clinical findings for validation of diagnoses.
Processes the requests for second opinion reviews when clinical validity is not supported or in question.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certification: Certified Coding Specialist / Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist; ACDIS/AHIMA certification, CCDS or CDIP

What you will do:
Reporting to the Practice Administrator at a comprehensive, multi-specialty site, the Clinical Manager at East Baltimore Medical Center is responsible for assisting the Practice Administrator in the daily clinical operations of the health center with an emphasis on managing clinical staff including budget management, scheduling, safety, environment of care, maintain adequate clinical supply level and the hiring, supervision, staffing, evaluation and discipline of Human Resources. You will float between the pediatric department, family practice, and adult medicine. This position assists with tasks to comply with various pay for performance programs such as value based purchasing, patient centered medical home, and meaningful use and support of our patient centered mission. Additionally, this position focuses on customer service and continuous improvement of clinical operations. Works effectively with patients to resolve customer service issues. Develops and implements common priorities and goals related to providing optimal customer service, maximizing operational efficiency, and assuring financial viability. The Clinical Manager II must demonstrate, through leadership example, visible organizational support and a positive attitude to create a positive work environment. Functions as the Practice Administrator in their absence.

Who should apply:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. Experience may be substituted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree at a 2:1 ratio.
(Equivalent would 8 years of experience for education AND 1 years of supervisory/management experience for a total of 9 years of healthcare experience needed to qualify for position.)
Two
years of healthcare management experience with direct supervision of staff is required. Ambulatory care experience highly preferred.
Current, unrestricted, RN licensure in Maryland and other jurisdictions as required.
Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years.

Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver expert nursing care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and with gynecological concerns.
* Educate, counsel, and support patients and their families throughout their care journey.
* Assist with exams, procedures, and obtain vital signs and medical histories in the absence of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
* Identify expected outcomes and anticipate potential adverse events, tailoring care to individual patient needs.
* Provide emergency care in accordance with escalation policies.
