Accordingly, when the patent rights to the Cyclone Drilling Machine became available in 1895, the brothers purchased them and began making tools and machinery for the water well drilling industry.
The move to a larger facility in Orrville, Ohio, in 1901, brought the Copes a new partner, William A. Tschantz, and brought the company to new levels of productivity, its drills now in demand in many foreign countries.
