This Liaison Engineer must have Material Review Board (MRB) experience in aerospace programs, and must be able to understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.
Key job responsibilities
- This position will work 2nd shift, 3:00pm-11:30pm, Monday-Friday
- Review and disposition non-conformance events of the spacecraft and its ground support equipment that may occur in all phases of the Leo operations: procurement, storage, handling, manufacturing, assembly, testing, transportation, final integration, launch and orbital operations;
- Develop standard repairs, rework procedures, propose design for manufacturing (DFM) improvements, improved processes and work instructions;
- Document static, dynamic and fatigue stress analyses when needed to support dispositions, interpreting established structural analysis reports;
- Develop analysis methods to address common structural non-conformances;
- Work with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering experts to provide root cause failure analyses;
- Interact with internal customers, external customers, and suppliers;
A day in the life
This Liaison/MRB Engineer will be providing engineering support to resolve engineering issues that arise during manufacturing and assembly processes, quality inspection and acceptance tests, through the application of engineering and design principles, consulting the engineering development teams as needed.
About the team
The Structural Material Review Board team is part of the Leo Structural Integrity and Analysis teams (Structural Analysis, Loads and Dynamics, Materials and Processes and Reliability) that is ultimately responsible for Integrity of not only the spacecraft but all other commodities supporting the program, inside and outside of the Mechanical Engineering group.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in a Liaison Engineer / Material Review Board (MRB) role with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Strong fundamentals in engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, modal, frequency response, random vibration, sine and acoustic analyses/tests)
- Experience with fatigue and fracture analyses
- Knowledge of or experience with spacecraft technology and related primary, secondary and tertiary structures
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
- Strong understanding or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
- Strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5M-1994 (drawing interpretation)

Key Responsibilities:
+ Fuel all vehicles
+ Check and add fluids to vehicles as needed
+ Clean and detail interiors and exteriors of vehicles
+ Complete other maintenance tasks assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
+ Valid driver's license
+ Vehicle fueling, cleaning, and detailing experience a plus
+ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
+ Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
Physical Requirements:
+ The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
+ Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
+ Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
+ Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
+ Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
