Town of Moncks Corner company history timeline

1843

Centered around America’s first canal—built in 1793—the park also features the Stony Landing House (1843) and a replica of the Little David, the Confederate Navy’s semisubmersible torpedo boat.

1856

The Northeastern Railroad laid its tracks in 1856 and the Depot became the center of the new Town of Moncks Corner.

1882

In 1882, Charleston County was divided and Mount Pleasant was placed in Berkeley County and named the first county seat.

1897

Fast forward 15 years later and it was decided that Moncks Corner would be the county seat and Mount Pleasant reverted to its former boundaries and back to Charleston County in 1897.
