Like most in the fire service I have worked at least two jobs most of my career and have gained valuable skills and knowledge from that experience. As a Firefighter I drove oil and propane deliver trucks, worked as a metal fabricator, CNC machine operator and welder. As I completed a degree from Keene State College in Occupational Safety I became Al Melanson Co. first Safety Director overseeing environmental, health and safety for ten companies in two states. Active fire service instructor for NH Fire Academy for over 20 years presenting the first certified hazardous materials technician program in the state and served as the City of Keene first Hazardous Materials Coordinator. As Training Captain for the Keene Fire Department I also worked as an adjunct professor for Keene State College for seven years presenting programs for students enrolled in the Occupational Safety Program.

As my primary job responsibilities increased to Deputy Fire Chief the number of hours available to work a second job dwindled. When time permits I have done some private consulting work for industry, software developers and continued to be an active fire service instructor.

Over the last four years as the Fire Chief / Emergency Management Director I continued with my desire to develop others and have mentored young men and women wanting a career in the fire service. Mentored and coached fire service personnel for promotional processes, served on numerous hiring and promotional boards, served as a membership advisor for our insurance company and continued to be a consultant for emergency service software developers.

Accomplishment

Instructed, coordinated and secured grant funding to teach the first certified hazardous materials technician program in the State of NH.

Established and lead the first level \'A\' Hazmat Team in the State of NH.

Created the first kids safety camp in New England to 7-9 year old kids.
